Wii U -- Nintendo Network, Miiverse, and Internet Browser

Postby LegendofSantiago » 13 Nov 2012 23:23

It's pretty much a translated version of what japan got, it's good to hear it from them though!
Oh! purchases are tied to the account according to this video. So i guess that solves that.
edit: What's up with Nintendo and fruit?

Wii U -- Nintendo Network, Miiverse, and Internet Browser

Postby lockNES » 14 Nov 2012 00:34

I can't wait to see what kind of memes start perpetuating on Miiverse. I can already imagine the equivalent of in-game planking or image macro-type screen shots becoming common. XD

It's going to be so much fun.

Can we start calling a "meme" on the Wii U a "Miim"? ;)

Not sure if they're building up to something with the fruit, or just screwing with us. Either way, I love it.

Sounds good. See people just panic over nothing. I knew downloads would be linked to a account, and not the hardware itself. It just makes sense for them to do it that way. Why would they go to all this trouble, in making a brand new network service, only to hamper it with such stupid restriction like that. They wouldn't, and they didn't.

This was all basically rehash. They need to detail eShop on Thursday, at the latest, to help people going out over the weekend buying a Wii U to consider buying the digital games on eShop day one as well.
Why they have waited this long to address eShop and other features, is kind of baffling...

Wii U -- Nintendo Network, Miiverse, and Internet Browser

Postby Hawk » 14 Nov 2012 03:03

It was a pretty straightforward and calm video... almost sobering, even. Because first of all, I kept waiting for Nintendo to show that their online system is STILL a wreck, and it never came. It sounds like the online might NOT suck!

And second, their demonstration example was surprisingly down to earth. No fake families or hand-picked group of friends, just a guy playing games by himself. I'm so used to marketing people making fluffy exaggerations of how fun their product is via group interaction.

And lastly, Bill's delivery was so matter-of-fact and humorless that the orange at the end TOTALLY caught me off guard. It got a good laugh out of me and added a certain punch to the whole video. Good show, Bill. Looking forward to my WiiU online experience.

Looks like Bill was trying to pull an Iwata at the end there. Bananas, oranges... what will the next fruit be?

Yeah, I agree! This example I could relate much better to.

You still dont get it, please point out the part of the video where Bill says you can download your games on other WiiUs. Having your games tied to the account does not automatically allow you to go any house and download your games there.
We can PROBABLY take for granted the ability to recover your games if something happened to the console, or doing transfers (original WiiU loses all data) though.

Wii U -- Nintendo Network, Miiverse, and Internet Browser

Postby MoldyClay » 14 Nov 2012 05:33

Almost positive the orange thing was solely to reference the Iwata video.

We started the Wii U's journey this year with Iwata holding bananas and we are closing the wait with Bill holding an orange (or another small orange citrus). So it may just be a throwback to where it all began this year.

@ddddd

This. All it means is that it is tied to the account... on the system. As far as we know, still.

Club Nintendo is tied to our systems, but that doesn't mean you can download your games on another Wii, DSi or 3DS if you get a new one. They are treated as separate accounts despite the fact they are all connected to the same Club Nintendo account. So it really doesn't prove anything yet.

@MoldyClay@ddddd

LMAO, why do you think the games are tied to the actual account then? And yes REGISTRATIONS were tied to Club Nintendo, but Wii did not have a system wide account system. Looks like you guys are the only two who still don't get it, or you guys just love to b**ch.

My first thought with the orange was that it was a Apple reference. Like "This is not an iPad. That would be like comparing Apples to oranges." But then Iwata had to screw that up with his 'naners.
