- characters are now 3D polygons
- maps and such for bottom-screen navigation through towns
- "special tablets" let you visit new places and get treasures
- tablets have names like "deep, isolated cave," "slime-laden forest" and "wide coast with good view"
- these tablets involve StreetPass
