Answer:

-No, you cannot. A Nintendo Network Account can only be used on the console where it was created. In the future, you will be able to use your Nintendo Network Account with future Nintendo consoles and other devices, such as PC's.

This pretty much kills any chance of downloading our games on friend's consoles, since we cannot even use our NNIDs there. Why am I not surprised by this?

At best I was hoping to be able to bring my account to a friends place and redownload games.

At worse: I was hoping to bring my save data over to a friends place and continue playing.

But this is worse than I thought.

Nintendo ID is already worse than psn/xbox live from a generation ago.

I was really exited and just reading this made me lose a lot of hype for the system.


edit: So are we back to square one on if the console breaks you lose everything like with the 3ds? I don't have the console yet so I don't have a great understanding of it all yet, but wow, so far this sounds really bad; no wonder Nintendo waited so long to reveal their account system. They are being way too paranoid.

Is the whole account thing really necessary for use on a console that isn't yours? Of course, if something happens to your console, I see the problem, but on someone elses? Whats the point? (I only owned a Wii this gen, so I don't know much about accounts)

we knew that when they said content was restricted to hardware in a faq the other day. they have zero intention on using a real account system. they probably see it as losing control.

Pretty sure Nintendo said a huge update was coming to 3DS/Wii U regarding Nintendo Network. They even said it will work in the future on other consoles so I doubt we should worry about it.

This is lame but I can kinda see why they're doing that. You log into a friend's WiiU and download your games to that system, your friend wouldn't consider buying that game, because hey, it's already on their system through YOUR account but they can access the game through their own. I think that's the primary reason they're doing this as people can really abuse such access. I remember people sharing PSNs so they can download their friend's games to their PS3 for that reason. And I think Sony decided to cut down the amount of devices you can use your PSN on. I think it was 5. But now, I think it's just 1 PS3, 1 Vita and 1 PSP. It would have been nice if I could log into my account on a friend's WiiU just to improve my stats while playing with him and using my account to go online. What they should have done instead of completely shutting people out of using their IDs on another console is not allow those games tied to that account to be downloaded on other WiiUs. Especially considering ANY user can play the games anyone user downloads tied to their account.

Going to look up on the PS3 situation...

You just pointed out one reason why this is so stupid. If a family member gets a Wii U later in the future, they can't just use their account from their family's Wii U console.

I read your post about a bricked wii u. That sucks. And seems like it just got worse =/

They said nothing about supporting other Wii Us in a future update. It's only confirmed to work on future Nintendo Consoles (so next gen consoles, or new 3ds iteration?) and PCs, smart phones. Nintendo made it clear by not mentioning other Wii U consoles.

It really doesn't matter if the wording is like that - if you can log in on other devices using your ID, I'm sure it will work on other console in the future.

It honestly doesn't affect me. I don't go to friends houses and log in to my account, even if it's on Steam, PSN, or Live. Overall, I'm still getting the system.

well it seems quite obvious it was going to be the case . They are not going to let people exchange games , because it will not make them any money , it's that simple . That's also the reason why the psn saw its numbers of sharing partners go down (still a great thing that i would use).
I admit i was hoping for it for a brief moment , it would have mean games bought by five people in my case . A very neat way to try a lot of games
No really the account system was always meant to be used by one person on the same hardware . The only way to share game is to lend the actual disc .
Aside from "settings" the only possible legitimate use of an account is to deactivate it after the physical product was stolen. The rest obviously is not going to make them any money , so just don't expect to pay less for your games.
