The fast and slow loading times of the Wii U

Postby LegendofSantiago » 19 Nov 2012 00:08

Games seem to be loading quickly, but apps that are part of the OS aren't. That's a bit weird, but it should be easily be fixable via an update

The fast and slow loading times of the Wii U

Just the early kinks of a new system. Not too worried.

Yeah, switching between menus can take a good second, but I just chalk it up to new system jitters.

with all the kinks i've been seeing, I'm kinda glad i haven't been able to find one anywhere yet! I'm sure these things will be fixed in time, like some of the 3DS's slowness issues (the eshop comes to mind)

How come no story on the huge glitch on Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racers Transformed (Wii U version only)?

We cannot complete World Tour due to a glitch that loads the default Rolutte map instead of the Boost Challenge map.
We cannot get passed the second boost challenge.

We can only unlock Samba De Amigo...
M1 is no more...

To be honest, it doesn't look all that bad to me. My 360 loads just as slow as what he showed, if not more slower than this. I mean the stupid spinning whites circles on the 360 can take up tp 20 to 30 seconds to load at times. Loading apps like the IE browsers, or YouTube, or NetFlix can all take similar times to load on the 360, So its not like its worst on the Wii U, its just not a whole lot better, which I'm sure people would have liked it to been better. But I'm sure Nintendo can refine it even more, and make it better over time.

I think the 3DS had similar issue. And even then, from time to time, rarely, does my 3DS hangup on the Friendlist, System Menu and especially internet browser. But it's not as consistent as seen in this video. I think a firmware update would remedy this. Has nothing to do with system power. Heck, it loads games quickly. Has more to do with built-in apps and needs patching,

The fast and slow loading times of the Wii U

The loading times ARE pretty bad. I don't know why everyone is acting like they aren't. Gotta admit when something's an issue, guys.

It's taken me over 30 seconds a few times to get into Miiverse. Hopefully a future update can fix this.

The fast and slow loading times of the Wii U

Postby thorn-rock » 19 Nov 2012 04:27

@PEICanada7

this exactly

Loading anything on my 360 takes pretty much as much time as this. Now I'm not saying I'm happy to see Nintendo join the flaws of the other systems, and they're still flaws. That being said, from the point of view of the press, what is not considered as an issue on a system should not be considered as an issue on another.

Hope they will fix that via an update pretty soon. Bit still I'd rather spend time loading an app but then when it's loaded everything runs smoothly rather than the contrary.

The fast and slow loading times of the Wii U

Postby t27duck » 19 Nov 2012 08:06

No excuse for some of these on-OS apps taking so long to load. They're probably waiting for a signal from the server which is getting hammered.

The joys of an always connected system. Sigh.

Interesting thought. When my company's network gets heavily congested (avg idle % drops into the single digits), you can notice it even when doing something like launching a blank Excel file, moving stuff on your own desktop, or trying to move a personal Outlook task from 10am to 2pm on your own Calendar.

Mine's been connected the whole time and I figured this was also the case. I set up nintendo network IDs for 6 Miis, and after doing parental settings, registering them to an email, etc, i'd say it took 45 minutes to an hour to do this, mainly just waiting to log in/out constantly. Setting up 6 user accounts should not take an hour. If the loading were instantaneous it would have been about 10 minutes, tops. Oh well! This sounds like it can be fixed in the future, though.
