hmm, looks like a virtual tie to me! At some points the 360 version looks brighter and at others the Wii U.

Assassin's Creed III - direct-feed footage, graphics compari

Postby Zaakro » 19 Nov 2012 16:28

this has to do with doing direct feeds from the Wii U, I guess the Wii U is locked at limited RGB.

Quote from gamefaqs

" I just read a review that Nintendo (bizarrely enough) have decided that their HDMI output is locked to limited RGB. Capturing software and PC monitors cannot display this kind of output which results in a grey washed out colour palette. TV's aswell that don't display limited RGB will get a washed out image too. "

Assassin's Creed III - direct-feed footage, graphics compari

Postby LegendofZelda1996 » 19 Nov 2012 16:30

There are some parts of Assassin Creed III on the XBOX 360 where the lighting seems a bit off, but that could be just me. And it seems a little sharper on the XBOX 360 than on the Wii U (not by a whole lot). But it could be just my eyes.

Besides that, the XBOX 360 & Wii U versions seems identical.

OK, someone please tell them that placing the screens like that makes it worse for a comparison! Seriously, people! What were you thinking?

Holy crap there's a lot of people in that theater. The frame rate seems to slow down a bit in eagle eye mode, still no anti aliasing, some NPC's popped up when he walked in the door, but the game does look good when it's not jagging.

@Chased
Placing the screens like that is dumb. They should split each screen down the center and have them fill the full video window, with Wii U on one side & 360 on the other. You wouldn't be able to compare all the elements that way, but you'd get a better impression of the lighting and rendering differences.

Agreed there.

The really dark boat in the middle of a bright, sunny day was really odd.

Nothing of what you just quoted is based in reality.

These comparisons are weird. Of course they look identical. It's a straight port meant to get the game running in time for launch. In order to improve the graphics you'd have to modify the graphics engine and re-create all the assets, and there is way too much to this game to just whip that up. They get hounded as it is for little graphical glitches.

Overall, judging solely by the feeds in the 2nd video, i give the 360 version the win. There are some spots where there are noticeable improvements in shadows, light refraction, and reflection. Not to say that the Wii U can't potentially handle the same graphics for other games, just that whoever programmed/ported the graphic shaders to Wii U obviously made some adjustments.

Places i see clear differences:
-0:42 in: The shadow and colors of the boat look MUCH nicer on the 360 feed (this is the scene I feel shows the most drastic difference).
-1:02 in: Look at the characters far hand, and the ink jar underneath it on the table. The hand looks much more lifelike and the ink jar has actual light reflection in the 360 version. The Wii U version in general looks a lot darker.
-2:55 in: The characters face has much better refraction/reflection in the 360 version. REGARDLESS of which you think looks better, it is more graphics intensive to display what the 360 is displaying.

Overall it is close but as I said I think the winner is the 360.

Assassin's Creed III - direct-feed footage, graphics compari

@chris_the_wing

Well, I believe that putting both versions, side by side but NOT mixed, is the best...You have both very close to each other and you don't see different things by splitting the footage in two pieces...

@thorn-rock

Seriously? Colours look better on the WiiU version? Where exactly? This one looks like it has been washed in a laundry machine and it's too bright...It has some more details on the faces at some places, but other than that, the WiiU version is seriously lacking compared to the 360 one!
