Konami has just made the first batch of classic Metal Gear Solid games available via their Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1. Now, Digital Foundry is taking a closer look at how well these games run. They analyze its performance across all modern platforms, including the Nintendo Switch.

Unfortunately, the performance of these new ports is reportedly less than stellar. The original Metal Gear Solid runs the same across all systems, and suffers from audio errors and other subpar emulation quirks. On the Switch, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 are set at 720p resolution and 30 frames per second, occasionally dipping below that target. In MGS2, there is no anti-aliasing whatsoever, resulting in sharp and unpleasant edges in the graphics.

Digital Foundry does comment that it’s not all bad, and that the collection has some nice features, but it’s disappointing from a technical standpoint. You can watch their full analysis up above for more insight and to see how the games look in motion.
