Back on Sept. 26th, 2023, the official X account for PlatinumGames has revealed that Hideki Kamiya was leaving the company on Oct. 12th, 2023. This was rather shocking news, as not only has Kamiya been a driving force in many of Platinum’s franchises, he’s also the vice president of the studio. No replacement for Kamiya has been named in the wake of his departure.

Following that, in a nearly 10-minute debut feature, Hideki Kamiya kicked off his YouTube Channel with a video detailing his departure from PlatinumGames. Today, Kamiya brings us yet another video, and in this one we hear about his disappointment in not being able to continue the Bayonetta franchise.

Kamiya was the driving force in all things Bayonetta, and he had a clear vision for where he wanted things to go. While that’s no longer possible due to his departure, Kamiya expects Platinum to continue the series without him. You can see his full statement on the matter below, courtesy of VGC.

“As I explained earlier, I worked on Bayonetta 1, 2, 3 and Origins,” he said. “I’ve talked about this in various interviews, that the Bayonetta series would consist of a total of nine episodes, and that I wanted to grow the franchise as the Bayonetta ‘Saga’, but it seems like I may have to take the full saga to the grave with me.

“It’s a shame. It’s not like I own the Bayonetta IP, but I suppose those who do will probably keep it going.”

Well…yeah.

I know it sucks seeing your baby become successful and then giving it up, but it’s not like they’ll stop with a successful franchise just because the creator left.

Let’s just hope they don’t butcher like Konami did with Metal Gear Solid.

Fire Emblem survived Shouzou Kaga leaving after the first decade…even if a small number of fans won’t let it go.

Of course they will! It's their biggest IP (Nier is NOT a Platinum IP).
