Foamstars may not be coming to the Switch, but Nintendo has certainly been a big part of the conversation surrounding Square Enix’s upcoming shooter. From the debut trailer, gamers were quick to liken the game to Splatoon, and it’s easy to see why. A shooter that has players covering the ground with different colored goop sure seems Splatoon-inspired, but Square Enix doesn’t feel that way.

While it’s unlikely Square Enix will be able to shake the Splatoon comparisons with Foamstars, but that’s not going to stop them from trying. On top of that, it’s clear the developers are quite tired of people bringing up Splatoon every time they try to talk about their title.

In an interview with VGC, Foamstars producer Kosuke Okatani flat-out said he was bored of the comparisons to Nintendo’s flagship shooter, saying that Foamstars has more than enough unique gameplay to offer.

“First of all, yes (I’m bored of the Splatoon comparisons) There have been many comparisons on the internet, but also, we saw on social media that the people who actually played it saw that it’s a completely different game and I hope you also agree. I feel like the mechanic of having the things you shoot stay on the field is very unique.”

Reminds me of when PlayStation All Stars didn't want Smash Bros comparisons.

That's pretty funny. You know what other game uses that as its main mechanic? I'll give you a hint...

Haha, funny how he finds the comparison annoying but then compares both in the same statement. Sure it's unique to a degree, but Splatoon does the same. XD
