BAFTA poll reveals the most iconic game characters of all-time
Now let's all get mad about this
Video games have produced some of the most memorable characters of any medium. So, in celebration of the 20th BAFTA Games Awards on Thursday 11 April 2024, BAFTA asked for the public’s help to settle the question, and over 4,000 players from around the world engaged with the official BAFTA poll.
The voting is closed and the votes have been tabulated. Now it’s time to reveal the Top 20 Most Iconic Video Game Characters of All Time, ranked in order of votes received:

- Mario (Super Mario)
- Agent 47 (Hitman)
- Sonic the Hedgehog (Sonic)
- Sackboy (LittleBigPlanet)

21d agoIt turns out some guy from the recently-released Baldur's Gate game is more iconic than Pikachu. How about that.
Are we sure these aren't the voting results from Nickelodeon's Kid's Choice Awards for "Most Rizz Character"?

21d agoIt’s worth noting that Lara Croft, Sackboy, and Agent 47 were created by the British (not to mention Nintendo being less popular there), so there’s probably some national bias going on here. Not that that’s an excuse. That’s like if Finland did a poll on the most iconic game characters in the world and had Alan Wake in the top 10.
Shadowheart is a woman, but I don’t think I’d even call her the most iconic character in BG3. Astarion seems to be way more popular than anyone else from that game.

21d agoThis is not much of an objective list, but it's based on a poll so go figure.
Sure, Lara is an Iconic character, no doubt, but the most iconic gaming character OF ALL TIME? I beg to differ.
And BG3 characters? IS this a joke? =D

Wouldn't call it an insult, but it sure doesn't make this list a serious one.
Objectively speaking Mario is number one by far. Lara might go as the most iconic female character, but even that's debatable. I could add Peach to that list, for example.
So it's for the best to just giggle at this silly, biased list and go play some video games =)
