Following the leak of a Switch Online GBA/GBC/GB emulator, we have even more information about legacy content offered via Switch Online. Today, we’re going to take a look at games not yet included in the Switch Online NES Collection.

It seems that the same leak that provided a look at the GBA emulator for Switch also included a different version of the Switch Online NES Collection. In a video, the apps are compared side-by-side, and they start off with a lineup that’s exactly the same. You see a number of NES titles as they’ve been released by Nintendo thus far, and then the app showcases a bunch of titles that haven’t made their way to the platform yet.

As you can see in the image above, there’s a slew of titles included in this version of the Switch Online NES Collection that haven’t made it out yet. From multiple Mega Man titles to Castlevania games, Contra, and more, it seems like there were a lot of heavy-hitters planned for the service.

Now, here’s the thing about this leak. This version of the Switch Online NES Collection has a build-date of October 2019. What does this mean for the future of these games on Switch Online? This might have been a list of titles Nintendo was hoping to include, but they didn’t manage to secure deals. It could also be an actual list of what to expect going forward. Nintendo obviously isn’t going to talk about this leak, so all we can do is sit back and cross our fingers that these games show up.

Oddly that looks like Super C but no Contra? Mega Man is an absolutely gaping hole in the NES library that would make a huge difference for me personally. Same with Castlevania. Oddly, Genesis has Contra and Castlevania. How about some Wily Wars while we are at it? I just wish they were able to get more of the licensed games on these services.

That'd be in line with Virtual Console. Super C but no Contra, and it was never remedied until the Contra Collection.

Probably never be able to teach our kids how to smoke with Metal Gear either. Sigh.

If this is from 2019, it could be that the other companies really did just let these fall through the cracks. Mega Man especially, could cut into the sales of the Legacy Collections. Sad too, they all have "SP" versions which I assume would be at the Robot Master refights at the end of the game so you could do a "boss rush" kind of mode.

Yeah, I think this is what they hoped to include.
Fire 'n Ice was indeed included but they never used (or were allowed to use) the original cover art.

Mega man, Contra, and Castlevania are more or less never going to see the light of day on the NSO service since you can buy them on the Nintendo eshop with their legacy and anniversary collections respectfully as far as they go.

As for Tetris, Nintendo doesn't have the license to release the NES version. The same applies when they lost the license to the game boy version after Ubisoft acquired the marketing rights to the older games and had to take it down from the 3ds eShop.
