Sabotage Studio, developer behind the upcoming retro-styled RPG Sea of Stars, has released a new, quick gameplay clip showing off the game’s battle system.

In particular, this clip shows off the tweaked HUD (heads-up display) that players will use during battle. It certainly gives off a retro feel akin to what used to be in Square Enix games, while still adding a few modern touches. Most importantly, the HUD doesn’t clutter up the combat screen, allowing you to easily make choices and get the job done.

Sea of Stars is a turn-based RPG inspired by the classics. It tells the story of two Children of the Solstice who will combine the powers of the sun and moon to perform Eclipse Magic, the only force capable of fending off the monstrous creations of the evil alchemist known as The Fleshmancer.

I wish it wasn’t turn-based. I also wish they made a sequel to the Messenger!!
