Resident Evil showrunner says the games are canon for the TV series

The debut trailer for Netflix’s upcoming Resident Evil series released today, and reactions have been somewhat mixed so far. While what we’re seeing in the trailer doesn’t seem all too much like the Resident Evil we know and love, apparently we can look forward to plenty of game connections woven throughout.
In an interview with Comicbook.com, Resident Evil showrunner and executive producer Andrew Dabb came right out and said everything that’s happened in the games has also happened in the show. There will be things fans see that make lots of sense, but don’t expect it all to be referenced in the first season.
“The games are our backstory. Everything that happened in the games exists in this world. So like the village is there. We might not get there till Season 5, but it is in our world, we can play with those, you know, as we’re now moving ahead. The village is a resource we draw on. You know what I mean? Everything in the games, the movies are a different story. But everything in the games is the backstory for the show. So, but again, we’re doling it out in pieces. We’re not being like, episode three, like meet the Redfields, episode four, here’s Leon. And I’m sure there’s a certain part of the fan base that I’m sure would be like, please do that version. But for us, it was more important, like, let’s take you on this journey. And then as the journey goes on and on, we will touch on different quarters and aspects of the mythology.”
The Resident Evil series kicks off on Netflix July 14th, 2022, and the first season has 8 hour-long episodes.

They think they'll make it to season 5? I like their optimism. Let's hope this series turns out well.
