Sonic Frontiers coverage has really picked up in the last couple of weeks, thanks to a bounty of gameplay footage, hands-on impressions, and developer interviews. Unfortunately, that deluge of content has led to fans pleading with SEGA to push Sonic Frontiers back.

Many Sonic fans have been dismayed with the gameplay footage for Sonic Frontiers, saying that it shows a title in need of a lot more development time. This wave of sentiment online has made it all the way back to SEGA, but they have no intentions to heed the call of players.

In an interview with VGC, Sonic Team studio head Takashi Iizuka commented on the fan-feedback. Iizuka says that their playtesters are giving the game considerable praise, and the team has no plans to push the game back to polish things up.

“It’s not really that surprising. We do realise everyone is just kind of reacting to the videos that they saw, and because they don’t understand what this new gameplay is they’re kind of comparing it to other games that they already know.

…Frontiers is in development now, and actually we’ve been doing a lot of playtesting with our target audience, who would be in that demographic of someone who’d play a Sonic game and enjoy it. From our playtesting results we have been iterating, we have been listening to the comments that come back, but we’ve also been getting a lot of great feedback from people who rate the game and are like, ‘I had a lot of fun playing this game, I’d give it like an 80 or 90 point score out of 100’.

So we do feel that we’re getting to the point where this game is done, and people will like it, and we do want to get that game into our fans’ hands as soon as possible.”

good for Sega. listening to raging, complaining, mad at everything gamers is not a good idea these days.

@almostzen

Have you seen the gameplay videos that were released? I'm not a sonic fan and certainly not a raging, complaining, mad at everything gamer and I also found it lacking. It can use more time in the oven.

Somehow, this is not what you should say as a publisher. If you are not surprised about negative feedback because we don't understand the game, you've failed to communicate your game.

This comes across as arrogance by the publisher.

Also the game still looks like they plopped sonic into an unreal asset flip full of randomly placed sonic items, sterile lighting, boring, featureless enemy designs, and vapid gameplay.

I've always been easy to please as a Sonic fan, but to me this barely even looks like a game. If we misunderstand the game after this much footage, then it's because you've done a terrible job of presenting it.

"I had a lot of fun playing this game, i'd give it like an 80 or 90 point score out of 100".

Ok...who actually said that?
