GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - Welcome to GoNintendo Version 5!

GN Version 5.0

Man, was it a rough 3 days there. The site went pretty much to dead in the water to launching a brand-new version. If you aren't aware of what happened, you can check out all the details in this vid. Glad to be back in action and running at full-steam ahead. Sorry for the inconvenience, gang! See you in a few, short hours.

GoNintendo went through one of its worst times ever late last week on Thursday. I'm sure you all know, but the site went down due to hardware issues. We had major hardware failure. Not only did we lose the site, we also lost all backups in an absolutely crazy coincidence. Dear lord, what a disaster it was. Thankfully that time is behind us, thanks to some extra-hard hustle from both T27Duck and Cortjezter.

We had been planning the new iteration of GoNintendo for awhile now, but we had to launch a bit earlier than expected. You know, losing an entire site makes you shift plans just a bit! Things were moved around behind the scenes and a plan was put into gear. On mid-day Saturday, we managed to launch GoNintendo Version 5! This was one of the teases I was telling you about, but the big surprise was us having to run it early!

With all that said, you've been using the new version of the site for almost 3 days now! Response thus far has been absolutely amazing. You guys really seem to like what we did this time around. Cleaner, simpler and easier to use. More features for you guys and other goodies as well. It was a lot to take in, I'm sure. It was also a lot for us to get out the door on short notice, but we did it, damnit!

If you're on a desktop/laptop, you see a completely different design for GoNintendo. New banner, font, design, colors, setup, features and SO much more. Hopefully all of it is self explanatory! While the traditional site is revamped in huge ways, its our mobile design that REALLY shows off how much we've changed. We now have an official, 100% Google verified mobile site. We passed all of Google's tests with flying colors. You just visit gonintendo.com on your mobile and you'll get to see the new version of the site for those on-the-go. I am extremely proud of how that version turned out.

Believe it or not, the traditional site and mobile site are actually EXACTLY the same! The change happens when the site sees if you're visiting from a mobile device or traditional computer. If a mobile device is detected, the site shrinks down to a mobile-friendly size and streamlines things. If you could somehow find out how to build a 'bigger' cellphone and visit the site, you'd hit a certain resolution where the site would switch over from mobile size to desktop size, giving you the banner and spread-out layout. It's a pretty unique design trick from T27Duck!

So here we are, running the new version of GoNintendo after quite a disaster. Very sad to be where I was on Thursday, very proud/happy to be where we are now. I just wanted to put up this feature in order to explain those few details to you guys, and to also open up the floor to questions. If you have any questions about the new site in ANY way, just leave a comment here and I'll be sure to get back to you!
