GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - Is Mega Man finally making a comeback?

GN Version 5.0

Had some good news today. Some very, very good news. Just one more piece of the puzzle to work out and I'll be back in the clear! Thanks to all those that sent in kind words about my mysterious messages lately. Cannot wait to clear the air and explain what's been up. See you in a few, short hours!

Mega Man was included in the roster of Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS and that's a pretty big deal. Not just any characters get to join into the madness. Seeing the Blue Bomber enter the fray shows that the character still resonates with a lot of gamers out there. Too bad it seems like Capcom doesn't respect Mega Man as much as we do.

Mega Man has been one of my favorite characters/franchises from the first time I played it. No matter how many other franchises try to emulate the Mega Man style, there's nothing quite like a Mega Man game. It's a gameplay experience from top to bottom that's pretty unique. Seeing other titles emulate that style only goes to show how innovative and interesting Mega Man was when it first hit the scene.

For years there, Mega Man games were pumped out left and right. There were a ton of spin-offs as well. Some might say that the franchise got a little over-saturated. There were just too many titles coming out and they released too quickly. That flood of Mega Man content may have dulled the brand a bit, causing Capcom to rethink how they handled the character. Unfortunately, that seemed to lead to a huge hole where Mega Man releases used to be.

Instead of seeing Mega Man games come out all the time, we got cancellation after cancellation. We saw multiple Mega Man games announced, but almost all of them in recent years were canned. It became such a regular occurrence that fans automatically started expecting a cancellation when a new Mega Man title was announced. Sadly, that's how things have been for awhile now, but it seems like things may be starting to change.

Today we saw Capcom announce that a new Mega Man cartoon is going to hit the airwaves. We might have to wait until 2017 to see it, but that's not too bad of a thing. 2017 happens to be the year Mega Man turns 30. I've been wondering if Capcom was going to let the big anniversary pass by without some sort of celebration, but the announcement of this cartoon gives me hope. It almost makes me think that we might end up seeing a new game in the franchise. I mean it might end up being a cartoon tie-in, but I'll take what I can get!

With Mega Man's 30th anniversary coming up and a new cartoon announced, are we about to see a revival of the brand? Will Capcom stop using Mega Man to sell non-gaming merchandise and actually bring the character back to potables/consoles? Leave a comment and let us know!
