GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - Where's our Virtual Boy games on Virtual Console?

GN Version 5.0

Getting back into the swing of things after spending time at the beach is rough. I really miss that salt air and swimming action! Oh well, the show must go on. There's something to be said for being in your home. Being in your own bed is certainly one of the good points! I'll be taking advantage of that right now. See you in a few, short hours.

We celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Virtual Boy earlier today. I cannot believe it's been that long since the system has come out. It's certainly an important part of Nintendo's history and well worth celebrating. Unfortunately, it wasn't exactly the best-selling platform. Truth be told, it was a pretty big bomb. There were a number of years where Nintendo didn't even like to mention the system's name, but they've certainly lightened up in recent years.

While the system may have been a flop, that doesn't mean the software was garbage. While the library of the Virtual Boy is indeed small, there were a number of pretty entertaining games. It was the system's visuals that really stopped it from having any chance at succeeding. The black and red color scheme may have made for more impressive and clear 3D visuals, but that came at the cost of tired eyes and headaches.

Fast-forward a number of years to the 3DS. Nintendo was finally brave enough to try tackling glasses-free 3D once again, and this time around they were giving us full color. There's no doubt that the 3DS' 3D effect is definitely better than what the Virtual Boy offered, but that's not to say it was perfect. Finding the 3D sweet spot proved quite tough for some players, and yet again we saw people complain of tired eyes and headaches after playing. Thankfully, Nintendo has since tweaked the 3D effect and given us the best experience yet in the New 3DS XL.

When the original 3DS launched, I thought for SURE that we'd see some Virtual Boy titles get re-released. I know it's not a simple case of porting the game over and that's that, but we're talking about games that were made to be played in 3D. Out of any titles out there that could hit the Virtual Console service, these seemed like titles that were more than worthy of the treatment. It just made perfect sense, especially in the case of Virtual Boy Wario Land. Yet here we sit...waiting for those games to come.

We've see all sorts of Virtual Console titles release on 3DS since the system launched, but none of them come from the Virtual Boy. There's NES, Game Boy and GBA games out there to play on the VC. There's even a selection of classic Nintendo games that have gotten complete 3D overhauls. How in the world was there not a single Virtual Boy game in the mix here?! Isn't it about time Nintendo tackle at least one of these games? Not seeing any hit the 3DS really feels like a missed opportunity.

Is this something you'd like to see happen? Looking to play some of those Virtual Boy games you never had the chance to? Leave a comment and let us know!
