GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - Seems like the NX is motoring right along

GN Version 5.0

Busy day, but not a bad thing. I like to stay busy. I like to play games more, but at least it's passing time until the weekend! Let's keep on pushing through and get to that relaxing weekend ahead. See you in a few, short hours!

It's sad to say, but it seems like the Wii U isn't going to hit its stride. There's certainly more interest in the platform as years roll on, but it's just not pulling in enough numbers to make it a viable platform for a number of years. That fact is even harsher when you look at how insanely well the Wii did. Following up that success with the lukewarm Wii U sales is a tough pill to swallow. People used to blast GameCube for poor sales, but even the Wii U hasn't caught up with that platform.

I really do enjoy the Wii U and the content available on it, but I can see the writing on the wall. The system just isn't going to stick around for as long as we'd like it to, no matter how much current owners love it. I'd really like to see the system get another 2-3 years of use and support, but I can't envision a situation where that happens. Even Nintendo seems to have recognized that the Wii U was a bit of a swing and a miss, so they've moved onto the platform's successor a bit earlier than anticipated.

The question that Nintendo fans have had for awhile now is just when will the NX release? All that is speculation right now. The only thing we do know is that Mr. Iwata promised we'd learn more about the system in 2016. While Iwata may no longer be with us, I'm sure his plans will be honored and continued by the rest of Nintendo's upper management. We will indeed learn more about Nintendo's plan for the NX, which should help paint a better picture as far as what it'll do and when it might release.

It seems like the NX could be further along in development than most thought. Earlier today, Square-Enix came out and said that they'd like to bring Dragon Quest XI to the NX. It seemed like it was a done deal and officially happening, but Square-Enix quickly backpedaled and said that it's something they'd like to have happen if possible. I think the cat is out of the bag on this one. Certainly seems like Square-Enix know a bit more about the platform than others. With rumblings of Nintendo hitting up third parties at E3 2015 to talk NX, it's not surprising to hear Square-Enix talking about the system.

So...just when are we going to see the NX release? Maybe that rumor of a Summer 2016 release isn't all that crazy, even though it bucks the trend of Nintendo's November releases for first hardware iterations. Even if a Summer release doesn't happen, will we really see the NX launch in November 2016? Could this be the last year that the Wii U has all to itself when it comes to Nintendo consoles? Leave a comment and let us know what you think!
