GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - Will you make or play in Super Mario Maker?

GN Version 5.0

Are we really already in August?! What in the hell is happening to the Summer?! Can't we get a few more months of no school? I don't even go and I hate the fact that school is sneaking up so quickly! Enjoy the Summer while you can, my friends. Live it to the fullest! See you in a few, short hours.

If you've been reading GoNintendo for a number of years, you may have picked up on a few of my gaming likes/dislikes. I'm really open to any type of game. I'm not a big online gamer. I suck at RPGs and can't seem to change that. While those might be common knowledge to GN fans, here's another one for you guys/gals. When it comes to games that feature level editors/creators, I'm not really one to take advantage of them.

Now don't confuse that with a dislike of those features. I love when game devs open up their games and let the players create content. I think it really pushes the creative side of gaming and also helps to show devs just what players want from their games. Some of the biggest and best games out there came from fans that modded titles into a completely different experience! I really respect those that take on those tasks and I very much respect the devs that foster that interest.

I think it's a pretty big deal that Nintendo is handing over the official keys to the Mario kingdom. We've all thought about making our own Mario levels. At the very least, we've pondered just how much hard work it takes to create a level that leaves a lasting impression on gamers. Now Nintendo is giving us a real set of tools to give things a try for ourselves. Fans have made mod and creation tools for the Mario series for years now, but this is completely different. It's the official, interactive how-to for creating 2D Mario games. I never thought I'd see the day!

While I'm super pumped to get into Super Mario Maker and create content...I have a feeling I'm going to suck at it. I'm just not a very creative guy! I can play the hell out of games, but I stink at coming up with compelling content. I leave that to the more forward-thinking minds out there, be they gamers or devs. So for me, while I'm sure to create a handful of levels in Super Mario Maker, it's the level creation from fans that I'm really looking forward to. I'm actually ridiculously excited to see what fans can come up with. I can only imagine how tough, interesting and unique some of the creations will be!

I lean more towards playing levels made by others, but what about you? Are you eager to toil away in Super Mario Maker and strut your stuff with level creation? Ready to get your levels rated and climb to the top of the quality charts? If not, are you more like me? Do you want to hop online and download every user-created level there is just to see how it plays? Leave a comment and let us know!
