Pokémon Go dev opens Japanese studio, industry expert ponders more Nintendo mobile tie-ins

Pokemon Go dev Niantic has opened up a studio in Japan. Why did Niantic need to open up an office in Japan, you ask? Industry expert Dr. Serkan Toto thinks it might have something to do with future Nintendo mobile titles utilizing Niantic's area of expertise.

"Generally speaking, Japanese gaming companies - I mean Nintendo in this specific case - love going vertical by becoming platforms if any opportunity to do so opens up," said Toto, offering his take on Niantic's recent expansion. So, it might very well be that Pokémon is not the only Nintendo mobile game that will make use of AR and GPS going forward."
