Reason behind Super Mario Maker's emergency maintenance revealed

Wondering why Nintendo had to take down Super Mario Maker for emergency maintenance? Turns out there was a game-breaking bug that could render any of the levels online completely useless. This glitch was letting people add in items that weren't in the created levels, which would then glitch the game and allow for all kinds of trickery to be used. This means stages that were created with challenge and time in mind could be beaten in just seconds.

Nintendo believed this glitch to be big enough that they yanked the game offline for emergency maintenance. While Nintendo themselves haven't discussed the glitch in detail, you can get a first-hand account of the glitch and how it was reported to Nintendo in the feature linked below.
