GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - What should Splatoon 2 be like?

GN Version 5.0

Time for me to call it a night, boys and girls. I'm feeling pretty tired tonight. Lots of stuff going on here, both with and outside of work. Nothing bad, just busy! Getting some rest should help to keep me from losing my mind with all that's going on! See you in a few, short hours.

Nintendo has a major hit on their hands with Splatoon. While the Wii U install base may not be all that big, the owners out there are more than willing to eat up what Nintendo is putting out. That seems especially true for new IP, with Splatoon becoming a great success. Nearly half of all Wii U owners have picked up the game! That shows that Nintendo fans really have some trust in the Big N when they put out something completely new.

Splatoon seemed like it had everything working against it. The title has a very Japanese-centric style, which can be hard for Western audiences to accept. The focus of the game is online multiplayer, an area where Nintendo isn't really proven at all. While there was single player content, it's very clear that this game is meant to be played online. On top of all that, it's a shooter that manages to be friendly and colorful, all while the traditional route in this genre is dark and bloody.

Even with the odds stacked against it, Nintendo managed to create a big hit. The sales continue to grow around the world and it's very obvious that a large fanbase has been created. The best part is seeing that Nintendo is just as appreciative of fans supporting the game as fans are of the game itself. I mean, we just saw one of the game's devs break down and cry on stage because he was so happy for the fan support! What an absolutely beautiful thing to see. It shows just how much heart the younger devs at Nintendo have.

I think we all know what's coming next. Splatoon has been a big hit, so it's silly not to believe that a sequel will come out at some point. We don't know what platform or when, but you can bet that Splatoon 2 is going to happen. The question is, just what will it be? You'd have to imagine that online multiplayer is going to be a focus once again, but what else should be in there? Do we need more online multiplayer modes? Should there be an expanded single player game? Should it take the base idea in a completely new direction? What do you want for the inevitable Splatoon 2? Leave a comment and let us know!
