GN Version 5.0

Time for me to call it a night, boys and girls. Tomorrow we have a fun little bit of news for you all. Expect that around 9 AM ET. It's game related and certainly fun, but don't think AAA insane news. We're talking about info on an indie title you already know about. Check that out here this morning! See you in a few, short hours.

Nintendo has said time and time again that they'll be branching out into some new areas. We know a few of those plans, but not much in the way of specifics. Nintendo is going to once again try their hand at movies, but it seems like they're taking a much more serious and hands-on approach this time. We also know about their plans for mobile and content on the way. There's some theme park attractions on the way, which we will hopefully find out more about soon. That certainly seems like a lot of irons in the fire, but today we learned Nintendo is lining up even more ideas.

Early reports from analysts show that Nintendo is going to keep dipping their toes into different waters. Some of the approaches seem like logical steps for Nintendo, and others seem to be coming out of left field. Today we heard about some of those new avenues. We heard mention of health/medical content, which isn't a hard thing to understand at all. Nintendo has already dabbled with some of this and now they seem even more dedicated. The same goes for 'computer software', which isn't defined enough for us to venture a guess what Nintendo means, but the Big N creating software just makes sense.

Then there's the mention of food-related efforts. This is the blurb that really got people talking, especially considering how little we know about what the direction is. Is Nintendo going to team up with existing restaurants for special promotions? Will Nintendo be opening some of their own eateries with a Nintendo theme? Hell, could Nintendo be working on some of their own food brands?! There's just so many questions here, and of course, Nintendo isn't talking about any of them yet.

How do all these different business ventures make you feel about Nintendo? Are you happy to see them trying some new things, or do you worry that the focus on new businesses will take away from their core content? Will game releases from Nintendo suffer in quality due to teams bringing more focus to new ventures, or will these various new ideas not have an impact on Nintendo's gaming side of things? Leave a comment and let us know.
