- spent $480.1 million on new gaming-related hardware, software, and accessories
- this is 14 percent down from $559.1 million
- Hardware July 2016: $141.3 million (down 30 percent) July 2015: $202.1 million
- Console Software July 2016: $210.3 million (down 5 percent) July 2015: $221.2 million
- PC game software July 2016: $11.4 million (down 12 percent) July 2015: $12.9 million
- Accessories July 2016: $117.1 million (down 5 percent) July 2015: $122.9 million
- increase in spending on handhelds was due to a price drop for 2DS and the launch of Monster Hunter: Generations
- this increased spending on Nintendo handheld hardware by 44 percent to $28 million
- Monster Hunter: Generations sold 52 percent fewer dollars than last July’s new game, Rory Mcllory PGA Tour
- declines in the average price for the 2DS by 33 percent resulted in a five-fold increase in unit sales for the 2DS to 78K units
- 3DS also saw an increase in unit sales of 18 percent
- spending on gaming-related accessories, which includes interactive toys, was down 5% year-over-year to $117.1 million
- July saw a 34 percentage point shift in dollar share away from Skylanders accessories and Amiibo to Disney Infinity accessories and Lego Dimension accessories
- total spend for interactive gaming toys declined by 3 percent compared to last year
- consumers spent an additional 55 percent on Disney Infinity accessories and $3 million on Lego Dimensions
