GoNintendo Thought - Does Nintendo hurt itself by being so secretive?

We don't really have an 'End of Day' around here anymore. Work continues throughout the night. I didn't want to ditch the End of Day thoughts feature, so now we'll just have daily thoughts! Either way, I still get to tell you guys that I'll see you in a few, short hours!

There are a few things all Nintendo fans know. We're all familiar with the various franchises Nintendo has under its belt. We recognize that Nintendo has and always will march to the beat of its own drum. Finally, we all see that Nintendo absolutely loves to keep secrets. Sometimes those secrets are certainly valid, and other times Nintendo seems to be going a bit overboard with the info they hold close to their chest.

Right now that secrecy is driving NIntendo fans a bit more crazy than usual. Quite a number of months ago, Nintendo told us that they would be talking about the NX at a future date this year. They also said the system was going to be launched in March of 2017. That kind of upfront nature from Nintendo was really shocking. I was taken aback to see Nintendo be so vocal about a new system that early on and I thought that news might point to a new approach from the big N. Unfortunately, I seem to be wrong.

While Nintendo still has time left in the year to discuss NX, we've seriously gotten no info from Nintendo at all on the platform. Nintendo has remained more tight-lipped than they usually do. Nintendo fans are used to a drip-feed of tiny info, but this time around we're all starving for news. Even just a simple mention from Nintendo that news is on the way soon or a message of encouragement to 'hang in there' would be so welcome at this point. Instead, it's radio silence from the Big N.

It's certainly fun to see some Nintendo surprises. The Twilight Princess reveal is one of the most fantastic memories I have as a Nintendo fan. The same goes for the surprise of Donkey Kong Country Returns. There's certainly a time and place for secrets and teasing. I also understand that Nintendo has to keep some information secret until the last possible minute. That said, do you believe they take things a step too far sometimes? Does Nintendo keep information hidden for so long that it pushes fans from being hyped to just being angry?

I've said for years now that Nintendo would really, REALLY do well with some sort of community manager. Just having a person that Nintendo fans could vent to on Twitter would be fantastic. Even if that employee only gets to pump out overall meaningless statements, it would be nice to know that Nintendo has someone out there that's sole purpose is to listen to us. A person like that could do wonders in a situation like we're experiencing now.

Have you been pushed too far with the way Nintendo holds onto their information? Do you think they're doing what they need to or are they asking too much of fans? Leave a comment and let us know.
