ST. LOUIS, Dec. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ - The largest tournament prize-pool in Super Smash Brothers history will be at stake this weekend in St. Louis. The Ultimate Gaming Championship, one of the fastest growing eSports tournament brands in the country, will be hosting the UGC Smash Open December 2-4 at the Gateway Center in Collinsville.

"This tournament will be the largest eSports event in St. Louis History," said UGC's Matt Jackson. "It will feature Super Smash Brothers Melee for the GameCube and Super Smash Brothers for the Wii U." More than two-dozen of the top-ranked Smash players in the world will be in attendance. "With over 400 competitors and $40,000 in prizes, it will set the stage for many more eSports tournaments to come in the area," Jackson said. "It is the second tournament in our UGC eSports Open Series - our $25,000 Halo event last month was a massive success."

In October, the organization hosted the UGC Open Halo 5 Tournament, and plans to roll out events for Gears of War 4, Overwatch and Rocket League in 2017. "If you love video games and want to have a good time, this is the place for you," said Jackson. "On top of the tournaments we play, we are also offering dedicated areas for friendly games. This is a great opportunity to test your skills against the best players in the world."
