There's certainly a bit of craziness going on right now with the Switch when it comes to defective units. We don't know how many people are experiencing issues. The way things tend to spread online, it makes things seem like every Switch owner is having issues, but that's obviously not the case. The only way we'll ever know what's going on with defective units is if Nintendo releases info on it.

One of the issues coming up is with the dock, which is supposedly scratching screens. This lead many to believe that Nintendo had removed the option to purchase a dock from their online store. It was available one day and gone the next. As you can probably guess, conspiracy theories quickly popped up saying Nintendo had yanked the dock due to it being defective. Today Nintendo released a statement saying that's not the case.

“The dock wasn’t ‘pulled’ from the replacement/refurbishment store—it’s out of stock. As previously announced, the Nintendo Switch dock set (which includes the dock, a HDMI cable, and an AC adapter) will be released Spring 2017.”
