GN Version 5.0

TumbleSeed is certainly quite a unique idea, but the core mechanic was inspired by the arcade game you see above. The title was called Ice Cold Beer, and had you to balance a ball on a bar that you moved up the arcade cabinet with a pair of joysticks. It's easy to see the connection Ice Cold Beer and Tumbelseed share, but the devs behind TumbleSeed did a lot to make sure their experience came away feeling completely different.

Coming from a Verge interview with designer Greg Wohlwend...

“There are so many ways to take this, and nobody has really done this. So that’s exciting, but you also have no reference to build off of. You have to learn all of the lessons of the game: what’s fun about Ice Cold Beer? The rolling is not really what’s fun. What’s fun is the indirect control, the pathfinding, and getting to one place. There are these simple rules that we had to hammer into our brains.”
