Super Mario Odyssey is only a couple of months away now, arriving on Nintendo Switch on October 27th. In his new adventure, Mario’s got a whole new world to explore as he attempts to crash the royal wedding between Bowser and Princess Peach.

During E3 2017 we witnessed the Treehouse Live team play around in the Sand Kingdom, New Donk City and the Wooded Kingdom, and the game’s producer Yoshiaki Koizumi has now taken us on a culinary journey in the Luncheon Kingdom during a special developer talk at gamescom 2017!

Some Kingdoms in Super Mario Odyssey look quite similar to the real world, but some of them, like this one, have a more surreal or cartoon-like vibe. Mr Koizumi revealed that the inspiration for this appetising new Kingdom was actually Italy and other European countries, due to the rich variety of cuisines and food cultures found there.

Mario can don different outfits in each Kingdom in Super Mario Odyssey, and in the Luncheon Kingdom the traditional costume is, fittingly, a set of chef whites! He certainly looks like he’s going to cook up a storm. Watch out for those frying pans, Mario!

There are a few enemies to capture in this Kingdom too, including Hammer Bros. and Lava Bubbles. In fact, Lava Bubbles are a personal favourite of Mr Koizumi, who during the presentation explained how you can swim smoothly across hot lava once captured. That’ll certainly come in handy!
