Steven Spielberg has been involved with a number of games over the years. He's dropped by E3 and checked out some games. He's commented very fondly about Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo's work in general. He also just handled the film adaptation of Ready Player One, which is deeply steeped in the world of gaming. With all that knowledge and history, you'd think Spielberg would be at least somewhat well-versed in video games. That's why this next statement to Japanese website Kyodo is so confusing.

I played Mario and so on on the PlayStation. The first time I tried it I didn’t want to take the goggles off.” - Steven Spielberg

I mean, I don't even know what to say. I don't know what Mr. Spielberg played...and I have no idea what he's talking about. We NEED a follow-up interview on this for clarification. I'd love to know what he actually played!

Thanks to MarioCheated for the heads up!
