Hope for a traditional Switch Virtual Console service is renewed with an eShop discovery

GN Version 5.0

With the launch of the Switch Online service, we've seen a handful of NES games made available to play, with another batch on the way in the coming months. That seemed to be the final straw when it came to hope for a traditional Virtual Console service, but now a new glimmer of hope has shone through.

A Switch dataminer has noticed that the Switch eShop JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) has just been updated. It now contains references to the terms Virtual Console, SNES, Game Boy, GBC, N64, GBA, and DS. Now there's two ways of looking at this. Perhaps this JSON data is just a carry-over from the 3DS, since all these terms can be found in the 3DS JSON as well. On the other hand, perhaps it's our first true hint at a more traditional VC service on Switch. I'm leaning towards the former, but what do you think?

Thanks to AutumnalBlake for the heads up!
