NPD - Top 20 software sales for Dec. 2018, Smash Bros. Ultimate the fastest-selling console exclusive game ever tracked by NPD

Oh man, was it a good month for Nintendo. Records broken left and right, and all on the back of Smash Bros. Ultimate. Let's get into the data, shall we?

- $3.4 billion in revenue, up 2 percent year-over-year
- highest total tracked consumer spend for a December month since December 2015
- hardware/software were down
- hardware hit $1.168 billion (down 8 percent from $1.272 billion)
- PC and console software: $1.237 billion (down 3 percent from $1.281 billion)
- Accessories and game cards: $1.01 billion (up 29 percent from $785 million)

- Nintendo’s games do not include digital sales, while games like Call of Duty, Red Dead, and Spider-Man all do
- packaged software launch month dollar sales of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate exceeded those of the previous best in franchise history, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, by over 70 percent.
- Smash Bros. Ultimate is the fastest-selling console exclusive game ever tracked by the NPD
- Smash Bros. Utlimate exceeded the launch month dollar sales of 2010’s Halo: Reach, the previous record-holder
