I just wanted to give these a post on their own...
These new scans show us a few new things, such as a couple locations we haven't seen before. There's also a new item block that Mario is carrying on his back, which looks like it may light up an area of the level. Plus, we finally get a look at the whole Koopa Kid gang!

More hype for a game that's coming out in a month and has a ton of information available on it, as opposed to one coming out at the end of next year with nothing more than one trailer. That's a fair comparison.

Fans only loath him because of his annoying voice in Sumshine (hell, everyone had annoying voices). I'm sure people will be frowning if they give the koopa kids voices
The Penguin Suit allows you to walk safely on ice without slipping as well as throw ice balls. But the 2 items are pretty much the same.
Kind of like how the Tanooki Suit and Racoon Leaf both allow you to fly and turn into a raccoon.

Are they pre-rendered (like in Donkey Kong Country), or are they polygonal?
Koopa Kids look better than ever, and that battle with Larry Koopa looks fun with those moving platforms.
If i import the game it will arrive just after my vacations.

Well, I have to say.. I like the Ice-Flower suit better, it just fits Mario much more.

They're "prerendered", if you like to call them that way.
Backgrounds (and enemies, at least in NSMB) are 2D, yeah, but the characters models are 3D, of course.
Seriously where are the people who thought this game looked crappy now?
Also backgrounds are not 2D, hands on previews lately confirmed objects in the background are 3D models.
It's like comparing the Leaf Racoon to the Tanooki Suit. The both can do the same thing with the Tanooki having a special power. SO the Ice Flower and Penguin Suit will do the same.
I was hoping for a more SMW overworld map. So it would seem more like a World than stages. Well it's still ok!
Finally Hooray for the return of the Entire Koopa Klan!!! With Koopa Klown Copter. This is really turning into the real Super Mario Bros 5.
Also I hate toad...dunno why, maybe because when I expected the princess to be in the bag, he was lying there peacefully and instead of telling me in which castle the princess was he just told me what i've already noticed ¬_¬
If this is Super Mario Bros. 5, then what the hell was New Super Mario Bros. on the DS then?

But then what happened to yoshi's island which is super mario world 2, is it like super mario bros. 4.5 ? And yoshi's Island DS? The series got rebooted on New super mario bros.

I love the ice suit ! It makes more sense than the penguin suit, even if both are ok.
And the over-world is awesome ! As is Peach's castle.
Waluigi has absolutely no personality. He, like Daisy from Super Mario Land and the recent Mario Party/Sports games, is just a filler character.
That being said, however, Nintendo does need to make a "Super Wario Bros." game with Wario and Waluigi. And make it in the style of Wario Land: Shake It!

He they definitely did. The penguin suit lets you walk on ice/water too but the flower just lets you shoot iceballs.

If you count Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels as the "real" SMB2, then SMB2 US is actually "Super Mario Bros. 2.5".
Or you could say SMB: The Lost Levels is basically "Super Mario Bros. 1.5", since it is basically the same game with a few added features.

Should I said feel more like SMB5. World had the Koopa Klown Kopter and the Koopa Kids.
The DS game had Bowser Jr.
If they game had continue normally after World. The odds of Jr being added to the Koopa Kids is less likely. Just like the idea that the DS game with no KK seems less likely. So a true SMB5 game after 3 and World. Which both games both that had the Koopa Kids. You would think have them, and then you add a new character like Bowser Jr.
Yoshi's Island was simply called "Super Mario: Yoshi's Island" in Japan.
Technically the "Super Mario World 2" tagline was for the sake of associating the game with a successful product and a STRICTLY a move of Nintendo of America. Therefore it doesn't count.
Besides it's not a "Super Mario Bros." title if Luigi isn't playable as well as Mario in addition to being 2D. Yoshi's Island you're just playing Yoshi 95% of the game to rescue Luigi.

I know he has no personality, that because, nintendo hasn't give him one, he's kind of wario but more bitter.
Toad is also a filler character, he started as a major role character, but in for example SMG, there are tons of them, that takes away his unique sensation he has in super mario bros. 2 usa.
Wario deserves that place, although he has 2 series going on. I mean Toad is just the B-side of peach in melee and brawl. Wario has his own spot in the roster, and waluigi is an assist trophy.

There already is a Mario vs. Wario game... it also happens to be Wario's first appearance! Super Mario Land 2: The 6 Golden Coins.
It's one of the best gameboy games... better than its predecessor in every aspect, imo. Plus, there's a power-up exclusive to the game.
The carrot: turns you into Bunny Mario, allowing you to float down by flapping your ears and jump/bounce continuously.
I played that game so often as a child. I probably beat it over 20 times and still loved it.

No I was talking about that Mario VS Wario. That was supposed to made for the N64 or Gamecube not quite sure. I think it got canned.
WTF? What world are you living in? Super Mario Land 2 was probably one of the most original games on Game Boy. It had the graphical style of Super Mario World, along with some great level design.
The original Wario Land had some terrible level design.
Wario Land 2... that was a great game. Wario Land 3 was also good due to the day/night cycle.

My only complaint is little nitpicks with the Power Up designs. Like Mario's overalls being red for the Ice suit. Sigh. I can overlook it, but it just seems like the artistry of the game got gimped for one of the more important details. I didn't really care for the penguin suit, but at least that seemed more appropriate than the red overalls - why not white?
I imagine that they'll have the Penguin Suit and Ice Flower both in the game a la Super Mario Bros. 3 with the Tanooki Suit and Raccoon Leaf. I hope, anyway.
I wish the Raccoon Leaf was back as well!
Apparently there is also the propeller suit, and a propeller Block... don't know what it's for. There is also the return of the mighty POW block !
I like that the Ice Flower is in, but I don't like the colors. I know it's KIND OF like his original art colors and DK, but I didn't like it in SSB and I don't like it now. It made more sense to use the ice statue version from Galaxy. D:
Also, I hope the Penguin is still there, for lulz and looking better.
But god... ffffff... excited now.

That's exactly what I've been thinking! Apparently lots of people commenting are suddenly and inexplicably in love with the game after feeling 'meh' about it before. Incredible! lol
I'm as excited as ever!
Anyway, bring on the 2D platforming goodness! Oh man I've so gotta get "A Boy and His Blob" sometime soon as well since this year is good for 2D platforming.
EDIT: Oh yes and having the Koopalings back and seeing Bowser Jr. in the mini-Koopa Clown flyer makes me wonder why they didn't just call this one "New Super Mario WORLD."

I went from hating it (I wanted a hand-drawn Mario like Wario Land, not a Super DS game) and everything about it.
To feeling "well, multiplayer... it's okay. Dunno about the price/graphics though"

This. The game itself looks much better than the DS game, to me, now, but it is still very disappointing compared to what it could be with the Wii's power.
But it looks like everything else is making up for that.
When I see games like Muramasa and Boy and his Blob, I can't help but weep inwardly and imagine Sonic, Mega Man, or Mario in an artsy sidescrolling badass game.
Oh, and Epic Mickey's artwork gets me like that for sure!
Yeah, there was something not quite satisfying with the DS presentation either - and it's not that it had less horsepower or anything, it was just the art and music choices in general.
Speaking of, I wonder what the soundtrack for this will be like...
I do, however, love the effect the magazine scans give the visuals. Sort of an aged paper look. Too bad the game won't have that tinting! Either way, some things look beautiful.

As someone else said, the Ice Flower is to the Penguin Suit what the Leaf was to the Tanuki Suit. The Penguin Suit is very much in this game.
Mario's overalls might be red for the ice suit because he is the red character. Maybe the toads/Luigi will incorporate their colors into most of the other costume designs....
Oh and the POW block is great also, another flashback from the original original Mario Brothers.

Look at mario1 and mario3 and compare Ice Mario with Fire Luigi.
This all the way. And I don't even want to count the games I can't afford, between Wii/DS and even my 360.
And at E3 I was really, really hoping for an artsy styled Mario. So to see a repeat of an already non-appealing looking DS Mario style, to say I was grossly disappointed would be a huge understatement.
EDIT: I'm also still upset about 2 Toads.
I know it wouldn't make sense to have Wario/Waluigi (though, to say it wouldn't be interesting? Really? And the 'not using Wario's attacks' doesn't work here because this wouldn't be the first time), but at the very least, normal Toad and Toadette.
If you want to argue RED, GREEN, BLUE, YELLOW (used all the time by Nintendo, example - SSB), but Four Swords used Green, Red, Blue and Purple. Switch Purple with Pink and we've got ourselves a Toadette (with Toad being blue, since he's WEARING blue).
Well for the propeller block, look at the third scan, just above the Bullet Bill, Mario is flying with a block, and it's writter Puropera burokku, which means "Propeller block".
I agree. Too many winter/early 2010 releases. In winter alone, I have to try and decide between this, TvC, Naruto, Fragile and a bunch of DS games. And then 2010 roles in with PS3, PSP and more DS/Wii.
Wario could easily be interesting, and even if fans were opposed to it for whatever ridiculous reason, there's tooons of other characters to be made use of.
I just hope that after we beat the game Peach is unlocked or something.

Wario totally would've worked, but people keep trying to argue size differences and "nobody wants to play Wario without his signature moves".
I don't know if these were given to try to justify Nintendo making a 'good' decision, or what, but I don't see how they are relevant.
And I've seen people say stuff about how they most likely didn't use normal Toad because he has the same colors as Mario and I was like REALLY?
Using recolored, generic Toads was the best Nintendo could come up with?
