I haven't had the chance to check out the movie adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are, but I know that the entire podcast crew is really looking forward to it. With that said, I do know the book, and the video games are readily available. Can either the film or the games hold a candle to teh original book? Something tells me no, but it's still worth a look to compare the three.

@Lofty The Metroid

It's truly great.

IGN has a pretty spot on review of it.

* * *

I've loved the book ever since. By way of tribute since May 1st, I've put together a growing collection of over 200 artists and myself inspired by the original book, Terrible Yellow Eyes : http://www.terribleyelloweyes.com/

(I don't usually comment and I don't mean to spam links, it just seems like anyone reading the comments on this post might be interested in TYE. Hopefully the link isn't out of line.)

I've heard that some people called it the next Wizard of Oz ._.

Honestly, I didn't get that vibe when I went to an early screening of it, but as far as screenplays go, Where the Wild Things Are is at the top of its game. Everything in the movie happens for a reason and all loose ends get tied together very nicely.

There was one thing that bugged me, but I won't spoil it. Also, for all I know, it could have been removed after the screening.

All in all, Where the Wild Things Are was REALLY good, and the only thing that could turn you off about it is if it's just not the type of movie for you, I would say.

No offense to anyone that enjoyed it, but I thought the Where The Wild Things Are movie was... probably third on my "Least favorite movies" list. There was no plot, no conclusion, nothing in it mattered at all, it didn't follow the book (even given that they had to make it MUCH longer, come on! They could've done so much better) and it was all around weird. I definitely have never wanted to walk out of the theatre after just 20 minutes.

Charbok is right. Saw this yesterday and it wasnt all that great. My lady brought up a good point tho, They did d a GREAT job on the monsters. They look amazing. But alas, the movie was not good.

Mainly cause the monsters were all so manic depressive. They acted like they just jumped off the zoloft train. Not to mention the awkward relationships the monsters had. And the script? wow, it was like watching a commune of hippies sad that one person is tripping and talking to owls (Which they never explained why no one wanted her to talk to them, OR why they didnt like the owl friends themselves.) and that the feds took away their "Happyness" or, Greens.

****SPOILER!!!******

Also, what the F**K? Carol rips off Dougs arm?? Messed up. Really messed up. Was that to show that "It was all just imagination!" cause it failed. Big time. They could have easily done sometihng like "Oh, they were all just dolls in his room!" but no, they resort to ripping a dudes arm off!

**** END SPOILERS!! ******

I will say tho, The beginning was good as it devloped Max a little better than the book. No friends, Family doesnt want to play with him, Mom wants some action, So he runs away. Altho, that bit was weird, ran away? How long? where was he? did he just fall asleep?

I know, I know, it was a childrens book of 10 sentences or so, made into a movie. But damn, if your going to show weird ass things at least explain SOMETHING!

IGN's review was pretty accurate to my own opinions on it.
GREAT film, more for adults than kids, but kids will still enjoy it.

Really great stuff, especially if you've a mind to reflect on what you're watching rather than just sit and watch it.

I thought the movie was pretty much a masterpiece. I didn't really like the book much as a kid, so Idk.
