October 21, 2009 by The News Team Filed Under: Nintendo in general, DSiWare, DSi

Well well well, look at what this error code turned up on the official Nintendo customer support website. I've put the interesting bit in italics...

Error Code: 206602
Nintendo DSi Shop - Nintendo Points Card or Nintendo DSi Download Ticket Error

There appears to be a problem using the Nintendo Points Card or a Nintendo DSi Shop Download Ticket.

* Make sure you entering the number in the correct field in the Nintendo DSi Shop.

o For Nintendo Points Card redemption, enter the number off the Nintendo Points Card in the "Add Nintendo DSi Points" section off of the main Nintendo DSi Shop page, and select "Redeem Nintendo Points Card."

o To redeem a Nintendo DSi Download Ticket number, such as for the Nintendo DSi Speak Channel, enter the number off the Nintendo DSi Download Ticket in "Settings and Features" off of the main Nintendo DSi Shop page, then select "Nintendo DSi Download Ticket."

* After verifying you are entering the number in the correct location, retry the number again and make sure it is being entered correctly.

Well, if that's not a 100% confirmation of a DSi Speak Channel, I don't know what is! Thanks to Kolma for the heads up.

That would be cool to have a voice chat program. Would give me a reason to finally buy a headset.

A "Channel"? So the DSi's apps are now considered channels?

Though, considering the DSi already has a microphone, what would you be getting a code for/from? A new "Nintendo DSi Headset"?

Totally didn't catch that @Sotomura !

But if they are doing this thing, I guess it can be considered a free phone call?

Awesome. I have the headset (got it for $5 at wal-mart) so a DSi speak channel would be a great complement to that. But the headset isn't needed obviously, so this is an even better idea!

...don't know what I'd use it for... But still!

@AL3X_M

It did say "download ticket", so I kinda doubt we'd be getting it for free.

What a coincidence! I was just talking with one of my buddies about DS headsets and this exact same subject if only there would be a DSi app that we can talk to one another on.

But now I'm curious.. if it's real, then how would it work? Would they need to introduce DSi friend codes system or include friend codes just for the app? Mii import/immigration?

I have a feeling this is a typo. Why would people with a DSi need a ticket number to download a DS Speak app? Is there an external purchase like Wii Speak? I don't see why because the DS already comes with a mic and the headset NIntendo sells for the DS doesn't come with a code.

Would be awesome.
Especially to someone whose country is full of Hotspots. DSi would work like a mobile phone. :P

The DSiPhone... LOL.

I hope it works along side the Wii Speak Channel. Would be cool to be at a hotspot and chat with something at home on the Wii.

Heres what I think about the download ticket number...

It wont be bundled with hardware rather it will be just like a Nintendo Points card that you buy in stores. You buy the voucher, peel off the back, and enter the code.

It looks like a dodgy copy, paste and replace informational aspect to me, if you look at the same error for if you enter a wrong code on the Wii http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/wfc/en ... cale=en_US it's the same thing as this one but with 'Wii' instead of 'Nintendo DSi'

Only worth it if it supports existing games or if it can run in the background while playing games.

Otherwise it'll end up worthless, just like WiiSpeak. Out almost a year, and has a horribly short list of games that support it.

If it does work you can use it to chat in games on Wii that don't have chat, if both have DSi.

I know there's a slim chance, but it really should have DSi > Wii speak cross communication. It could be a great Skype replacement.

Well the internet channel is powered by Opera. Maybe the DSi Speak channel will be powered by Skype?

They demand a certain level of voice quality on special devices like the PSP and mayvbe soon the DSi before they'll release the program. The download ticket for the channel would come with their skype headset for the DSi and all will be well. since you don't have to pay to continually use skype as a service (for skype to skype calls only I could easily see Nintendo using them.

Ah, glorious skype on my DSi would be brilliant. I'm sure Nintendo will also have a main mode set-up to mimic the Wii Speak channel on Wii.

I hate speculating, my speculations never come true. Both the DS and Wii were supposed to have an F-Zero game by now.

Actually, this looks like they just took the Wii Shop's error information and used an automatic tool to replace "Wii" with "Nintendo DSi".

This would be cool, although it would also completely rule out Skype etc.

Plus, it's likely that even if something exists, it won't be called "DSi Speak Channel", since the DSi doesn't strictly have "channels", just applications and stuff.

Nintendo's upcoming announcement may very well be the DSi speak channel, and that it and the Wii Speak channel will be made completely cross-compatable.
