I was going to post up my Cabela's review tonight, but Rinry surprised me with her latest video! Of course I'd rather share than than my review, as the Cabela's game wasn't very good! Please, enjoy this video, as it should jump-start your Friday quite nicely. See you all in a few, short hours!
Ah...do you remember the days when GoNintendo didn't have Rinry on-board? I sure do...those were lamer days! I couldn't be happier to have Rinry and her excellent videos as a part of the site. It's a feature that I'm not only extremely happy to bring you guys...it's one that I look forward to myself!
Lucky for me, Rinry dropped off her latest video just a few hours ago. What a great surprise for a Friday! This is how the end of the work week needs to kick off!
This time around, Rinry tackles the dark, seedy land of NES pirated carts. The main culprit in this video is the NES/Famicom 31-in-1 cart, which features game rip-offs, as well as titles that never saw localization. Don't worry, all your favorites like Merry 1, Pack Man, Battle City and Road Fight are here!
Please, check out Rinry's latest work, as both her and Jot put a lot of work into it. Of course, leave a comment and let them know what you think!

Great vid Rinry!
Anyway, yeah, awesome video. I'm normally not too interested in 8-bit gaming, but you keep it fun, and damn you're endearing. Keep it up!
Surprisingly, it had about 30 (good) games on it. Plus modified versions, of course. But there was Super Mario Bros there, Contra, Battle City, even Duck Tales.
Geez, I've got to search for one of these to buy again.
Haha, but seriously I actually really enjoy these videos!
Battle City does look pretty cool! This is the first time I've heard of it.
Excellent compilation of gaming goodness Rinry and Jot!
I like
oops, too late. ;d
I look forward to future instalments.
As a kid I remember I got my hands on one that was like 250-in-1.. Imagine how shocked I was.
I thought I wouldn't have to buy another game ever, but like Rinry said out of all the games only like 10 were actually good or complete versions and many were also repeated.
Anyways, it was a while since your last video.. good to have you back Rinry.
Great content, I really dig your style!
Keep the good work going, I'm the first of your fans!!!
I know I know that first song in the background, but what is it again! It's killing me.
EDIT: Never mind. It's from Monkey Island. I recognized it because Dubmood made a tribute song to it.
Fro~
PS: yo WLS, just incase you missed it, I replied to your PM! ;D
Mmm, yeah...
It sounds like she's reading from a slow-scrolling autocue/teleprompter. A little 'cutesy' too.
Beyond that it's pretty good. Pretty interesting.
But the only thing is for me she'll always have to compete with James Rolfe. Not easy to beat.
He may play a character but his knowledge and love is adstounding.
His movie tastes are great too!
@Splunge
I also felt that I had spoken too slow in this video. It didn't occur to me until well into the editing though, so I didn't want to re-record the whole script! I did go back and overdub a few sections where I thought my slow pace was especially bad. I promise to pick up the pace next time!
@Red Dragon
Don't worry about it. I do want to do a video that's not NES related, I just know so much about that ancient console. Any suggestions? You can always message me!
@NeroSuferoth
I would actually say that there are about 90 unique games on 260 in 1. So that is a large amount of games, just nowhere near 260! Also, a lot of them are games that were never heard of outside Japan.
Oh, and one more!
@Brainhost
That is the main theme from The Secret of Monkey Island. It's not an NES game, but it's about pirates and I absolutely love that song
I don't think it's too slow, honestly, though maybe you should try talking much faster next time so we can compare. lol
On a vaguely related note, upon looking at your blog I was struck to the core with a dark fact and must ask WHY DID YOU SELL YOUR WII!?!?!? Not making a moral judgment, just sad that we won't be seeing any Wii videos from you...
But I guess your videos are all on retro topics and such, which is a nice breath of fresh air. Maybe you should start a 'RinWii' fund we can all contribute to though lol
Well, you'd certainly know better than me, plus my memory is a little vague.
I do remember that some were repeated or with slight variations. Others looked very low on production values but were fun like Battle City
Also the cartridge that I speak of looked like a regular NES cartridge.
This is very well made and quiet funny AND educational too. Loved it .
I too remember those things, specially the ones on gameboy. I kept wondering wtf was going on, it all seems too weird to be true. Specially that game where Mario turned into the Tiny Toons or something... ahahah.
Now I realize it was all bootleg work.
I love the internet.
I must also praise the use of the Monkey Island theme.
"The cartridge I speak of looked like a regular NES cartridge."
That just made me laugh as it reminded me of Lord of the Rings for some reason...
Aw, man. I feel guilty. Sorry I showed a bit of favouritism there but I did enjoy your video (its the first I've seen of you) and you certainly are worthy of the praise Rawmeat gives you.
It's pretty refreshing to see different takes on the world of gaming and I'm sucker for nostalgia too, so it's win-win on this occasion!
I miss the 90s... so much.
Hehe... you must have missed my 260 in 1 cartridge's cameo in this video! It too looks like a perfectly normal, albeit poorly made, NES cartridge. And, yes, it does have repeated versions of the same game. If you don't include the variations of each unique game, there are about 90 games on the cartridge.
@WiiLikeSportz
Yea... I sold my Wii. I will definitely buy another if a new version comes out though! And, don't worry about my inability to produce Wii-related videos, I can easily access a Wii despite my lack of ownership
Ha ha curses! I had a funny reply to 'anonymous acting as Rinry's proxy' but you forced me to erase it by realising that!
I'm glad about your Wii-Access but for now the retrolatiousness is perfect.
And pass on to Jot that the music doth be groovin' it out! I don't see him postin' but if I do I will let him know myself.
i'd rather hear something spoken slower and clear, than quicker and hard to catch. zero punctuation is an example of how NOT to do voiceovers.
keep it up!
Not even close...
Beware the 9.999.999 in 1!

I don't know whos better
You
Wiifolder
or Scott
Oh yeah.. right at the 38secs. mark. I missed that the first time.
It's actually cool that you still have a working NES and what looks like a vast games library + 260 and more alternate versions of those games.
EDIT: Hehe.. watching the video a second time I just realized that the only version of Ice Climbers that I ever played must've been the pirated (or Japanese) version because of the seals.
I think I'm going to steer clear of top ten lists. At least for now. They seem to generate very heated responses!
@keyz
Well, sacrifices have to be made in a world with limited money to go around. I hope the fact that I own two DS's cheers you up.
That conforts me. A friend of mine also sold her wii. And I helped her buy it. Boo. But since you needed the money (my friend traded it for a PS3, insert fanboy rage here) it's okay, lawl
Anyhoo, I loved the video, very informative indeed, for us folks who never had a NES.
And as soon as I heard the Monkey Island theme I KNEW this was going to be awesome, and you have great taste.
PS: Commodore Amiga/ZX Spectrum-themed video?
You wouldn't happen to know where to find one of these would you?
You can usually get 31 in 1 and other multi-carts on ebay. They seem to be fairly expensive at the moment (about $50-80 for the cart with the converter). It's kind of interesting because the majority of people selling them are located in Canada.
31 in 1 and 52 in 1 (I used to have one of these but I lent it someone who I can't remember way back in the day, you know who you are!) were extremely popular in Canada, especially Atlantic Canada where you could find tons of them for purchase at flea-markets and even rent at video stores.
You should also check out amazon.com, where you can pick up some interesting ones for about $20, but they don't include the converter.
Thanks to everybody who watched the video and Kevin for letting us be a part of the site!
Dont get me wrong, the vids are pretty good. Just ugh!
I also never knew Battle City was Japan only, I used to play the crap out of that game with my cousin, I think we only made it to level 40 or something. The level editor in that game was also pretty sweet.
Another gem from 31-in-1 is the kinnikuman(Wrestle as it's called in the menu) game.
That's interesting that you mention the popularity of 31-in-1 in Atlantic Canada, seeing as I used to live in Atlantic Canada. I played the crap out of 31-in-1 back in the day. I still have the cart on my shelf, with all my other NES games.
