I didn't realize that 'fastest hardware user growth in tech history' was a title that people were vying for, but now the results have been shown. Looks like Apple might want to get into the game industry as a main focus in the near future.

Who says anyone was vying for it? Someone simply reported some statics. Just butthurt because iPod is beating your precious Nintendo systems at something?

True. But iPod Touch is basically iPhone without the phone component. So it is not totally unfair to pair them together for this.

Just like it's wrong to group DS Lite and DSi sales (which I'm positive they're doing), right?

"Looks like Apple might want to get into the game industry as a main focus in the near future."

I can see it now: it'll be $2,000, and have no games, but a pretty and simple menu. ;) The controller will have one button. People will latch onto it and begin yammering on about how they don't NEED games for the system since they don't have to worry about those pesky "control" things. Then they'd attack the other consoles for not being as hip at their box.

Apple should stick to portable media players. They are best at that.

If they make an actual game system, I wouldn't buy it. Unless it has real games (not these small casual games that over-saturate the iPhone/iPod Touch).

And just because the iPhone plays games, that doesn't make it a game system. If that were true, then all smartphones would be considered game systems as well. It is just a secondary feature, it's main feature is being a media player/phone.

Now the opposite is true of the PSP. The PSP's main function is a portable game system. It's media playing functions are secondary.

Playdia 2 confirms !!! Can't wait to see Apple as a 1st party showing us their ultimate powers and knowledge on mastering video games development ! Come on Apple give a try on doing better than super mario galaxy, hallo, zelda, pickmin, shenmue, daytona usa, virtua fighter or even wii sports ! lol

@rpguy_ad
No button on the controler, the box is going to work with the power of the brain, because it's Apple and because it's so cool ;)

DS sold more than 100 million worlwide in 20 Quarters.

Iphone needs to keep its momentum to reach DS.

@Jonath

It's nowhere near to the DS.

PSP sales are at about 55 million units, and that really hasn't changed for months now.

DS sales are at about 115 million units. If you include the DSi, then that adds a couple million more sales.

Is Apple saying that the Wii has sold more units than the DS? I highly doubt it has reached 100 million yet.

You guys are reading it wrong. They're talking about the Wii first 10 quarters, since its launch, and the DSs first 10 quarters since its launch, and etc. They're not going by the last 10 quarters, or the total accumulated sales of each system.

"Who cares?"

I'm pretty sure if the iPhone/iPod Touch weren't the fastest hardware user growth in tech history and Nintendo's Wii still held that, you guys would all be boasting. -_-

But those numbers are suspicious because they combined the iPhone and iPod Touch together. Not really fair to count them when each SKU released on two different dates, times, and years.

Just make a full fronter gaming machine, Apple. I feel like they really want to.

@The_King_Up_North

I wasn't reading it wrong I just thought the DS sky rocketed after the 8th quarter. I guess you can't really see it here.

Anyways, it is unfair to put iPhone and iPod Touch together because one is being bought as a phone and the other as an mp3 player. I mean, why don't we add the DSi sales or hell Wii and DS together. They're being bought for different reasons but both are about games.

Yeah except the iPhone/iPod Touch is more of a pocket PC and not really a full-fledged game console. This comparison is disingenuous.
