Earlier today, Netflix announced that they'll be running a service on the PS3. While many might think that that closes the door for Wii owners, Webush analyst Michael Pachter thinks differently.

"We believe that the exclusive arrangement limits Netflix's ability to appear on the 'dashboard' for the PS3 or the Wii. We anticipate that a similar arrangement will be announced for the Wii in the next 12 months."

Well, let the 12 month countdown begin. I sure hope Pachter is right this time around!

I mean seriously...is it really worth having Netflix on a console? I don't see the need for this, that's just me.

A year is a long time.

Nintendo might have announced their next console by then. Then where does that leave Netflix.....

It might be seen as 'convenient' to stream movies through Netflix. After all, Nintendo Channel and Wii no Ma have streaming video....that at max is maybe 10-15 minutes. Not over an hour. Not everyone has a great internet connection to stream these things, and not everybody is connected to the internet.

So yeah. I don't really see how this would add value to Wii from a consumer's point of view.

Yup. I think it'll probably end up on the Wii eventually too. I really couldn't care less though. I didn't buy a Wii to watch movies, I bought it to play games.

It probably will eventually, but it will more than likely suck. A lot. This is the Wii and using online we are talking about here.

@Lockdale

Yes. But not worth having on the Wii.

At all.

Wow. All signs pointed to a Wii service. I can't believe it ended up being for the PS3. Didn't Netflix say that the service was going to be for an install base that was material? That usually means they are going with a console with a large install base and the PS3 is not that console. It has the SMALLEST install base. Yeah it is still material, but not nearly as material as the other consoles on the market.

I dunno. I'm not disappointed, though. I could care less. I have a 360 which already has the service, but I'm not interested in it either way. The list of movies to watch are all movies I have seen or own or have no interest in. So had it been for Wii...whoop-de-doo. Which is the same way I feel about the announcement of it being on the PS3.

I'm just surprised that after all the surveys and rumors about the service coming to Wii...it ended up being announced for the PS3.

Even if the service comes, I really don't care for it on Wii. I already have it on 360 and could potentially get it on my PS3 if I wanted. Great announcement for the PS3 though. ;D

It won't [more likely PSP], but if it did, all Nintendo fans who care for such things would whine about resolutions, thus not getting it anyway.

In short, Nintendo would be better off bringing their own TV/Movie channel to the west... before 2012.
