"I tend to forget those games [laughs]. I'm a big fan of the 'Star Fox' games. Every time we make a 'Star Fox' game I'm hoping people will enjoy it as much as I do. Of course the goal every time is to try and make it more and more fun but, at least in Japan, the people that purchase the 'Star Fox' games has decreased over the years. But we still try to make them more fun and hopefully people will see the appeal in those games." - Shigeru Miyamoto
That sounds to me like Miyamoto has some more plans for the StarFox universe. I really can't wait to see those ideas come to fruition. I'm a huge StarFox fan, just as Miyamoto is!

Try to do an old style Starfox that actually tops it, I guarentee you it'll do great.
This. Other than the WS bit.
Can't blame Japan [and the rest of the world] for whining interest when it hasn't had a console game in years, really.
Though, unlike most, I actually liked SFA tbh.
Head's up people: My download already read as "completed" when I clicked my e-mail link. If that happens, call Nintendo: (800) 255-3700.
It's a bug on their end, and they'll have to manually correct it in your account so you can download your game. They said it's happened to a few people, so call if you have an issue.
On topic: Just make a Strafox shooter, like the SNES and N64 version. Go "back to basics", and people will likely come back.
YES. The lack of focus is what's been driving me insane. Wii is perfect for this game. I hope to God they announce one soon.
Please Miyamoto, make it happen.
Just go back to basics... and in any event there are still a lto of people who would buy a new Star Fox for sure.
Go figure, when there hasn't really been a "true" Starfox game since Lylat Wars and the "core" of the franchise basically only consists of the N64 and SNES episodes. Starfox Command may not have been an utter failure, but it just didn't really work out on the DS the way it did on the N64. If anyone bothered to check what made Lylat Wars such a success and transferred it to the Wii with sensible controls, it would definitely work out better than some new "Oh look it's Fox and he's on an adventure! Again!" game.
Really, primarily on rails flight shooter, multiple paths leading to different areas and twists. What was wrong with this? The closest thing to try was Armada and quite frankly it blew because it didn't even try to have the multiple paths, one of the things which made Starfox great.
@Hongo
This, however, is retarded. Crybaby core in action.
"IT'S ONLY ONE OR THE OTHER THERE CAN'T BE BOTH HOW DARE YOU MAKE GAMES THAT SELL GREAT NINTENDO WAAAAHHHH".
something like gears? you and 3 friends playing coop mode xD
Lol did you see the sales of some of these "core" games?
I love Star Fox, S64 might be my favorite game of all time, but Command was terrible (touch screen controls - WTF) and Assault was above average at best.
well StarFox is one of Miyamotos creations like Mario, Zelda, F-Zero etc. so i would assume he would.
Pikmin 3, which would obviously work great with the pointer.
Star Fox, which would work amazing with the pointer, and perhaps some Wii MotionPlus for doing barrel rolls (lol) and stuff.
C'mon Nintendo! Three Excite titles and no Star Fox?
I love how when anyone says for Nintendo work on a core game or franchise, that means they hate the casual and someone will spurt nonsense like that.
No, there can be both (I never said that, take a chill pill). But saying you're sad to see interest in something dying when you do nothing about it is hypocritical. It's like people who complain about being in pain yet don't go to a doctor to fix the problem. Nintendo could develop a new Star Fox if they wanted, but the question is when.
For real! Well, we do know Pikmin 3 has been under production for a while now, but we still haven't seen anything from it..
But still, that and especially StarFox are the big 'duh's for showing off how badass the Wii can be!
Good Games on Wii
Zelda Twilight Princess
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Smash Brothers Brawl
and Maybe Metroid Prime 3 but that is it
I use to be a HUGE Nintendo fan then I play Xbox 360 and I relized that Hell Im an idiot for allways refusing to play the 360.
Its online kills Wii!
That just me, just not to happy with nintendo taking forever to put out new games rather than mario
played
(:
you know there is more than just 5 good games on Wii. Go buy Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn or Battalion Wars 2.
Wow! I WANT it!
Pikmin 3 is in development, Miyamoto has flat out said it many times.
assault couldve been better, granted. but it suffers from the same problem of rogue squadron 3. i think maybe they both had only one mode of transportation in mind but had to fit in others (on foot, landmaster tank, speeder bike, what ev.) which couldnt be fine tuned properly before release.. but im could just be rambling..
anywho, yeah, lets light that fire under your keister and come up with a new star fox game already
analog control with a screen i just didn't think it was even possible
Heh. This Star Fox business reminds me of the Sonic situation.
And I'd rather have Star Fox, a REAL follow up to SF64, with ONLY vehicle levels, none of this getting out and running around bulls**t, before a Panzer Dragoon game. However, I would indeed like to have both, ideally.
Miyamoto, my man, just tell the guys who made Star Fox 64 to get off their fat asses, and make a proper sequel, PRONTO. That's all it takes.
I played through Adventures, tried Command, never got around to try Assault, but didn't hear much good or could get it for anything but a horrid price at the time.
SF64 was plain awesome though, I played the hell out of it. Probably more than Wave Race even. So those 2 games would be franchises I'd actually buy for full price right away if they are done properly. But then, the jet-ski racing in Wii Sports Resort is "better than a full blown new wave race". Better my ass.
It would be a good way to differentiate it from S&P 2, as well as the branching paths. But really, 4-player co-op and a game similar to SF64 and I'll get it.
WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE?!
However, Assault IMO sucked because it was so bloody short (that, and Namco didn't put in the same detail like Rare did...). I mean, honestly, individual hairs on Fox's tail in SFA, but all the ships had to be so damn jaggy and pointy? And they could've at least kept the same voice actors from SFA (It don't make sense how Peppy should suddenly acquire a younger sounding voice, when it sounded like he was almost ready to cough up a lung at any moment
However, Command was awful. It just felt so bland and repetitive, and online...actually, I can't anything about it, cause I only used it once, but it didn't leave a great taste in my mouth...
tl;dr I enjoyed parts of walking around and blowing stuff up or going hand-to-hand with a staff, especially in multiplayer. Next SF should be along the lines of (BUT ABSOLUTELY NOT) Assault: Mix of walking and vehicle stages (both on rails and free-roaming), but an epic adventure like.... And online multi. No questions.
This is fantastic to hear. I want more from this franchise for sure
WHY DOES NOBODY EAT THEM?
THEY STOPPED EATING MY CUPCAKES 6 YEARS AGO
IM SO SAD THEY DONT EAT MY LOVELY CUPCAKES THAT I HAVENT MADE A LOVELY CUPCAKE IN 12 YEARS
WHY DOES NO ONE EAT MY LOVELY CUPCAKES?
-to Nintendo, go screw yourself
*Sighs*
When did gamers like you get so nasty?
Seriously. The way some of you say your opinions makes it sound as though Nintendo physically assaults you with every business move they make. It's just not cool... You can say negative [and constructive] things without being so venomous.
Wha? He's saying even back when the game's first released they didn't sell all that well in Japan. He isn't saying the sales are bad NOW.
I just hope Nintendo learns to compete with itself and best the SNES and N64 versions. No distractions. Just Arwings and some Landmasters. But keep the kickass multiplayer from StarFox: Assault.
"Just shows how the most important people can be unaware of why something fails that seems very obvious to others."
You have to be a fool to believe he doesn't realize that outsourcing bad Star Fox games will cause disinterest in the series. Miyamoto tends to sound like a kid when doing interviews.
I gotta admit i got some really cool ideas the series can head too ad great ideas to add upon the Starfox formula!!!
HERE's a taste of my ideas... One is to make side mode where your mii joins the Starfox crew and can walk aroud the great fox and get several missions from the crew!!
Another great idea is of course multiplayer... but in this case it'll be Destroy the enemy's base in which will be a giant great fox slowly moving around the map by one of the players that join a match... I mean how cool will it be for the great fox to be a base in multiplayer and being able to control it... I could already see shooting enemies down with the great fox's beams!!!!
So i hope Nintendo does something really fun!!!
Please God no. No offense, but I'm glad you're not in charge of what Nintendo releases. That game was terrible. I wasted money to buy it, and the ONLY good levels, were the first TWO levels. Why? Because they were what the whole goddamn game should have been, STAR FOX shooter levels. That opening level was what sold me when I saw videos in the first place, the music was awesome, ALL those ships on screen at once, seeing so much going on in the background with no popup (it makes you wonder why Namco did such a TERRIBLE job on Soul Calibur Legends).
But that was it. The get out and walk around levels are absolutely terrible. Not only is that not what Star Fox is about, it doesn't even DO it well, the controls are terrible, the graphics for the walk around levels were laughable, and the missions were just plain tedious. The second to last level was so frustratingly BAD and redundant, that it made you not even WANT to get to the last boss.
So no. Screw Assault. SF64 is THE best shooter of it's kind, ever made. Nintendo shouldn't farm out something they're so good at, they still have the same guys who MADE the damned game, just get them to work that magic again. It would look gorgeous on Wii, and it could be even better than 64. They just need to make it happen.
Command was a good step in the right direction after Assault. Stuck to the ships this time, but because of the RTS elements the battles are all in all-range form and the closest thing you get to on rails shooting are the missile chases. Still liked it overall. Had lots of replay value since it had 9 endings (that's pretty surprising for a game like SF, and I love the F-Zero cameos), the graphics were pretty well done, and some of the story elements weren't bad (while others were just totally "wtf?" inducing, like the "worst ending" that you are forced to get on your first playthrough made no sense to me).
Anyway, yeah a new entry in the series would be very welcome, especially on the Wii. 9-Volt's boss stage in WarioWare: Smooth Moves just keeps feeling like a tease in two ways: 1) a Wii SF still hasn't been announced yet, and 2) the original SNES Star Fox still isn't on the VC yet (thankfully I still have my SNES cart so it's not a huge deal in MY case).
*sigh*
when did gamers loose their teeth, and became too afraid to demand better quality for the products they buy?
@WiiFolder
well, im more pissed about the fact that we cant get a good starfox game because the japanese apparently dont want it.
and methinks if nintendo would put some effort into starfox (which it hasnt in over a decade) the japanese would appreciate it more
just to be clear, the devs for the last 3 starfox games:
rare
namco
q-something
Q-Games, which is a dev studio that's actually made up mostly of ex-Argonaut devs who worked on the original SNES Star Fox, and the canceled Star Fox 2 (the RTS elements in Command were actually the dev team's way of bringing back a lost element from SF2).
... plus, the only game I played of the whole series was Command... and the WarioWare minigame
Woot!
StarFox Universe!
You heard it here first!
Whoops, read it wrong...
Wow... facts! Something that it's good to know!
No, Nintendo needs to let Treasure make the awesome original titles they already make, and have the guys who did such an AMAZING job on SF64, make a true sequel, as has already been said repeatedly.
people either loved the first one and didn't really care about the N64 version, or the loved the N64 and didn't really care about the first one.
one game has real voice work, another has gibberish. there is no set foundation to starfox in anyway.
the series needs to be revamped and retooled.
