First off, we were all hoping that Netflix was coming to Wii. After weeks and weeks of debate, we learned that Netflix was heading to the PS3 next. Then, someone at Netflix commented on the Wii, saying that the service would indeed make sense on that platform. Last, we had Michael Pachter chime in to say that the service would probably hit Wii within the next year.

Now we have the next step in the saga. According to an inside source at StreamingMedia, Netflix is testing their service on the Wii right now, and it will be rolled out to the public very soon. I wonder if this would make more people pick up a Wii for the holidays...

So shortly after the PS3 announcement? No, not a chance. Especially not this year. They use a Blu-ray disc for the PS3's Netflix which uses BD-Live to access the service. It was said to be a loophole in the Microsoft contact and it will be used until the said contract expires and they will allow the service to be accessed through a future firmware app.

I don't see how they can get around this on the Wii, even with a dedicated Channel. Then you have quality issues, and the Wii is simply not built for heavy streaming. It's common tech sense. I'm sure they have tested time and time again no doubt, but I doubt it's coming. If ever.

It requires a disc just like the Ps3, food for thought.

I absolutely love Netflix.

Don't really know how my Wii can enhance it, though.

@Scarpine

I really don't like it when people spread rumours as fact...

Just saying, being civilized and all...

Unless ye be joking, and I'm being troll'd. Then my comment is retracted.

Don't care either way. Not really for it. Not against it. We'll see.

@The_Dude1212

He is joking. How can you not tell!?

Anyways, if it comes to Wii I don't care anymore since I have the service on 360 and can get it on my PS3. It'd be cool for Wii only owners though.

As long as I can have the service here in Brazil, count me in.

Totally isn't happening. Nintendo have their own TV / Movie channel, why pay extra fees when they have that already?

Plus, most wouldn't pay for it because of lack of HD resolutions anyway.

It will happen, since it would be great move Nintendo and Netflix's side to capitalize on the untapped "casual" market of the Wii, which would be a good idea, since some of them are likely already using Netflix. By giving the masses of "Casual" people who are not already online using their Wii through it's Wi-Fi connection a reason to go online, it opens up new profit possibilities for the both of them and has the power to train a new generation of gamers, consisting of women, older people and a few college goers and their families to buy Nintendo products.
