Well I'll be trading in the DSi for the DSi XL then because my hands are too big for the DSi so I can't hold it all the time this seems like the perfect fit for me. 24 yrs old.
So it's a 7 in Japan, and if it's named XL everywhere else, that puts it in the same ballpark as the original Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi. The one that really had the magic name was Nintendo DS Lite.
Its fine for me whether it fits or not and I don't mind if the game has more or less pixel count such things don't faze me and as for the text now that is a welcome in my book.
Haha. Iwata presents the brand new DSi XL, using "the world thinest notebook": macbook air !
That last screenshot almost sold me. But yeah, DSi owners shouldn't feel cheated. Even if I mostly play inside, I'm not sure if this is really comfortable.
First time I've seen a company go BACKWARDS in mobility with a hand held device. I guess NIntendo has to be innovative, even if it's stupid innovative.
It looks good to me. It's probably about as wide as a Gamegear, and I played one of those for several years when I was a kid without complaining about the size. This looks thinner than a Gamegear and probably weighs less, so it should be comfortable. We're all used to smaller portable electronics these days, but whatever. The bigger screen will be nice.
@cortjezter: In my opinion, that's exactly the point. Some people might be following the netbook craze and wondering if they should jump in, but would find windows, or possibly even linux too confusing, so this would be their cheaper alternative. Basic net access (which will still be rubbish unless the RAM is doubled) and several small fun applications.
That's what I think they're aiming for, but I still can't see the sense in it...
This system is what people who when they saw the updated DSlite(DSi) wanted isnt it? LARGER SCREENS! So I know a lot of those people are feeling mixed emotions right now. Depending on their situation.
If they bought a DSi still even though they were dissapointed with the tin screen size increase...now they see this and go..ahh!
I am telling you guys if you think this will flop well...there is always a chance...but I am going to get straight to the point, I want this thing!
I have a DS PHAT still. My DSlite is my primary DS though. The DS Phat just sits there..sometiems I give it usage as my music player and for playing DS demos from Nintendo channel.
But for the most part I have MOVED ON. Now I did plan on sellling/trading my DSlite and getting a DSi.
Then I changed my mind. Now I dont know what to do.
If I cant afford it at launch....I might have to sell my DSlite and DSphat and some games I have already beaten to get this thing.
I don't care how heavy it turns out to be. I will ADAPT just like I did with DSphat! Remember before DSphat was GBA..and GBASP....there is a mind factor with gamers that occurs....the DS XL will feel heavier than it really is all because we have been spoiled with LITES!
Just like it was going from GBA to DSPHAT.
-PS- Having said that. I know people will stick with their PHat,Lite,i It all depends what kind of DS experience you are after.
What a gaming platform such breadth and width of options.
At least this thing isnt a PSP GO.(had to sorry)
Thing is I am a guy who is always on the up and up of anyting gadget and gamingwise...so I was surprised...how could I let it past me...the screen size differences of PSPs... thougt they kept it the same 4.3inches for all iterations...I had no idea...the GO was so smaller(I knew it looked deceptively small..still thought the screen was the same)....I then read...and went aah...also I had no idea the last iteration before PSPGO the PSP 3000 has a slightly smaller screen too..and thus DS XL beats it out a bit.
Thing is think about this people..tink about it...the DS now has a PSP sized screen..but remember DS does thigns in TWOS! TWO PSP SIZED SCREENS... Bah about pixelation worries.... You guys should be excited not annoyed.
BIG HANDED guys and girls?(who kept complaining about the cramps of curents DS sizes) should be having a laugh and holding rituals for the passing of their old DS....here comes DSi XL!

@Azelover
LOL
It's LL in Japan, and XL elsewhere, because LL means XL to the Japanese.
Can you guys imagine we didn't even think something like this would happen a week ago?
Wii=599=5=change.
WiiHD=8=riches and comfort(same as Gameboy)
Also games are gonna look pretty bad unless it has a higher pixel count,
only thing thats gonna look better is Text
Its fine for me whether it fits or not and I don't mind if the game has more or less pixel count such things don't faze me and as for the text now that is a welcome in my book.
This may get me to upgrade to a DSi! Yes, I know, I'm not in the target audience, yadda, yadda...
"only thing thats gonna look better is Text "
It's a good thing it's being made just for that sole reason.

The screen just has larger pixels. Take a normal DS/Lite/i unit, and bring it closer to your face. That's pretty much what you'll see with this.
That's what I think they're aiming for, but I still can't see the sense in it...
It just looks too big.
No wait, it's too big

Interesting times for portable gaming.
I'm not sure if I want it.
It's tempting for sure.
But I dunno. lol.
