October 29, 2009 by RawmeatCowboy Filed Under: Cube

Here's an old blurb from the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, in May of 2001.

There was no Zelda game on display, but Star Fox Adventures: Dinosaur Planet should keep adventure enthusiasts more than happy.

I don't think many people were 'happy' with StarFox Adventures. I usually hear a ton of complaints about this game. As always with this title, I'm dumbfounded by the hate for this game. Am I wrong for liking it so much?!

I wish I could erase this game from my mind. Nothing but a chore from beginning to end, ugh...

Interesting. I recall it was a well received game and also received great reviews.

I enjoyed the game quite a bit.

Starfox Adventures was the Zelda that didn't happen. I hold that game with the same esteem that I hold Twilight Princess. It was a wonderful adventure game with great graphics for the time.

It was a decent replacement for Zelda while Wind Waker was still under development. Good, but not great.

I really liked this game. People just seemed to hate it because it wasn't classic Starfox.

It was alright.

It had AMAZING graphics.

I recall a lot of backtracking, through mazes no less designed to mask loading a different area of the world.

Overall, I'd give it about an 8 I guess.

I enjoyed the game thoroughly. Still one of the best looking on the Cube, and I hope, for whatever reason, that people took the large word ADVENTURE in the title to mean just that.

Hey, if you're going to rip off a game, at least rip off a good one. SFAdv was totally fine in my book, and even the ending (especially with the bizarre accent), I thought to be enjoyable.

It is what it is.

Looking back, I think the game does get a lot of undeserved crap. I really enjoyed it and it's still a beautiful game. RARE really went all out with the production and presentation. Yeah, it wasn't Star Fox and was more like a Zelda wannabe, but it was a damn good one.

I loved the game. In fact, during the first month since its release the game was the whole talk of my high school. It was that awesome.

this was one of my fave games from the GC days. great graphics, incredible soundtrack, perfectly decent gameplay.

part of me does wish it had stayed "dinosaur planet" though.

I enjoyed it for what it was: a Star Fox game that didn't play like a Star Fox game. It looked amazing and the soundtrack was great.

And it was a lot better than that pile of crap that was Star Fox Assault.

It introduced the worst character to happen in the franchise.

So no.

I thoroughly enjoyed the game.

Looking at it purely as a game in the gameplay style of Zelda, I thought it was executed very well.

Looking at it as a part of the StarFox franchise, I loved how it expanded the mythology. Taking these characters who we've just seen fly space fighters but presumably have lives and skills outside the cockpit, and letting us have an adventure with them where they (especially Fox) do get out of the cockpit...I loved it.

And from a technical standpoint, great graphics (and in 16x9 if desired, no less).

From an artistic standpoint, great art design and music.

It was never a chore for me. I always find the game entertaining, to this very day. The graphics still astound me.

I've only ever had one glitch, and that was somehow the game froze and suddenly colourful cubes and spheres popped on screen where they're should've been rocks and plants and trees and things (I'm ending this before I start singing the rest of America's A Horse With No Name, lol :P). Still, it wasn't too big a loss. I only saved moments before.

the game was awesome, especially because it was running interference for zelda

just like what speed racer did for fzero...except fzero never came

the only big problems i had were - that stupid egg collection part - that stupid ass crozoa temple - krystal and her creepy ass accent (sounded like fake british, which is weird) - and the worst thing of all? DELETING MY DAMN GAME, after finishing the game, it decided that making a new game in the second slot means i should delete the old game, because when i went to load my old new game, i saw there before me, my old game gone

I liked the game. Didn't love it. But it's not a Star Fox title. Star Fox should be in his arwing at all times. Period.

ironically, the few flying sections were totally worth less.

it was a nice game, but i can't really call it a great game. the controls were a bit clunky which made it hard to want to play long enough to get used to them.

It was a great and a beautiful game, but not Zelda-quality.
