"The mood of the market got colder than expected, and there was a miscalculation. Now, we are preparing for next year and thinking about what to do the year after next. We're thinking about our best chances for success." - Satoru Iwata
Iwata also reconfirmed that the Vitality Sensor is going to be out in 2010, and there's more to it than the simple elements that we know now. Finally, this is the response Iwata gave when asked about the competition from Apple's iPhone.
"In the marketplace, our presence is growing."

the handheld marketplace, expanding to audience 8 years ago would had never considered getting a handheld that wasnt a PDA or a phone
If it works as a sort of lie detector though, I'm NEVER telling my girlfriend that it can do that.
Yeah. That could be a dangerous tool for some people!
Bring back some classic franchises that long-time fans have been screaming/begging for.
Remember that there are other character titles in the catalog besides Mario and Zelda.
Or just give us new IPs/characters to play with: Cosmic Walker.
Create games that utilize the online service the system provides. Online is now more the "norm" than the "niche".
Quit near exclusively catering to bringing in new people who will buy 3-5 maximum games TOTAL over the system's life cycle versus the people who regularly buy 12-20 games a year.
Quit introducing updated versions of current systems every six months with minimal to no software to support said upgrades.
Same can be said for adding new gadgets, controllers and peripherals every few months. Work on the types of games that are already out there that support the existing stuff.
Problem solved.
Me too, about the WVS.
Couldn't give a monkey's about all these fanboy 'WiiHD expansion' rumours and that brick called the DSi XL.
THIS.
Also, try to push new/less known IPs more. Stuff like the Cing games have such potential, but even Nintendo ignores them.
Nintendo seems to have barely done ANYTHING at all these last few months. It really took some scouring to get good games. And scouring is really something only an elite of gamers are willing to do.

"fanboy 'WiiHD expansion' rumours"
lol you can call it fanboy all you want, but it was menetioned in a respected business websites article by the guy who claims to have the info. Nintendo themselves (Miyamoto) have been mentioning wii hd a lot lately (Pikmin, HD being the standard etc.) So you and inerverate can call it crazy all you want, but a lot of things have been happening to point us in that way.
Donkey Kong
Star Fox
F-Zero
Kid Icarus
Kirby
Pikmin
Zelda (yes I know it is being made but should have been made earlier)
Ice Climbers
Mother/Earthbound
Trace Memory R
Nintendogs Wii
You wouldn't have gotten as cold
Yes, because the success got to your heads so you were playing it safe.
@thedreadpirateguy
100% agreed.
Or do like Konami/Capcom and make new sequels to games in the style of arcade Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., a new Ice Climber or heck, even Clu Clu Land or Balloon Fight?
@Artistic_Anarchy
"because the success got to your heads so you were playing it safe"
Totally agreed. Most of the stuff released from Nintendo, regardless of how good or fun it is, are very safe upgrades from DS, Gamecube, or even NES titles.
I'm all for using the groundwork elements of a franchise, but get a little daring in there as well by building upon those concepts with something new.
Releasing nothing gets you nothing.
"Quit re-releasing Gamecube games as "new" titles."
I think they already quit it long time ago. However, they never re-released the Gamecube titles as "new". The cover of those titles clearly says "Play classic Gamecube games with enhanced Wii control"
"Bring back some classic franchises that long-time fans have been screaming/begging for. "
It looks like they are starting to do it with games such as Punch Out and ExciteBike, and probably more classic franchises are coming.
We have Trace Memory R, it just has another name and it didn't get there
I'll trade my AC for your Excitebots, though!
long cycle.
The Wii although it has untapped power...its just not HD and if Nintendo don't want the core audience to leave completely( which I think most have already....to be honest if game sales are anything to go by) they need to upgrade the Wii to HD and run it in parallel to the old Wii supporting it until when ready to slowly phase it out and offer HD Wii only.
I kept saying 2011. That would be the defacto 5 year traditional console cycle..2006-2011.
But after 6 years Nintendo has this huge loss...and I don't think they should be that worried but...when something that has worked for six years straight and now all of a sudden drops you cant to rest on your laurels and think ah Ill just pull through...
They need HD Wii and I will be frank they needed DSiXL...and DSiXL will be a basis for how htey build handhelds from ere on out to the DS2.
Large sexy screens please...keep that...dual touch touchscreen..perhaps even two?
Anyway as for the Wii...I have now switched to what all the analyst and folks on the inside are saying.
Fall 2010. They couldn't do it any sooner....and that is a good thing. MS and Sony are going motion...so Nintendo HAS NO CHOICE but to go HD...but I think Nintendo wont just rest with oh yea we added HD..NO they are going to TOP THAT I think.(they will support from 480p to resolutions beyond 1080p...what maximum exactly I don't know couldn't tell you...wait and see)
See HOLORAPHIC DISC R & D they have been doing.
I am telling you guys right now you are going to be in for a shock if you think all they are going to do is add HD to the new Wii to make it up to par with 360/PS3.
I said it here first. Mark my words.
Half of their featured line-up this year was GC re-releases, including Metroid Prime Trilogy, which was as recent as late August (two months ago).
It's like when companies release classic gaming compilations. They may not be "new" games, but the current release certainly is. They can add a fancy name or description, but it's still a "new" title that can currently be found on store shelves.
I'm sure they'll do other franchises, but their lin-up is still largely "safe" updates of familiar game territory, or now games with recycled content: Wii Sports Resort, Wii Fit Plus, Super Mario Galaxy 2.
I would love to see Epic Mickey make the Mario team rethink the sequel and scrap all of the old levels and replace them with new content.
They have the time. And if they don't, they can certainly afford to make the time. I'll suffer a delay for a better product.
Worked out well for Ocarina of Time back in the day.
