It seems like no one can get any news straight from Factor 5. Even the bigger gaming news outlets like IGN can't get the company to crack. All we ever have to go on are rumors and leaks.
Now we're hearing that Nintendo and LucasArts are sitting on not one, but two completed Wii games. LucasArts is yet to publish a supposed Rogue Squadron title, and Nintendo hasn't moved on a completed Pilotwings upgrade. If this is true, I'd like to know what's going on with these two titles!

Not that I'm trying to turn away from the topic at hand, but MarioManiac, you mention Twilight Princess... and all I can think about is the new direction Nintendo should take with that series.
I've been thinking about this a LOT as of late, and as I've been playing Uncharted 2 for PS3, I'm thinking turning the Zelda game world into something even more explorative like the Uncharted game world would be the next logical step. Let's make Link more agile and mobile. Watching Nathan Drake jump from platform to platform, swing from ropes to ledges and barely hanging on -- makes me realize how awesome of a gameplay advancement the Zelda series could benefit from.
Just replace Nathan's guns with Link's sword and projectile weapons (arrows, bombs, boomerang), make Link's swordplay work 1-to-1 with Motion+, and tie the whole game world together seamlessly, and you've got what could arguably be the best Zelda game ever.

Why are random message board postings credited as news sources here on GoNintendo?
November 1, 2009 at 7:08 am
If this is true, I'm sure it's because of legal reasons and Nintendo just stock piling it till they feel it's needed. (which is now really, but they won't announce it till AFTER the holiday season)
Probably more Legal, since the developer that made it has gone under, they hold some rights to the game, so they have to work it out.

This is just a rumor. I'd like some concrete info.
It's also possible that the two games aren't very good.
Off-topic
Has anyone noticed how former 2nd party Nintendo developers seem to have problems?
Factor 5 is having financial problems.
Silicon Knights last game, Too Human, was considered by critics and gamers as mediocre.
Left Field Productions(they made Excitebike 64) last game was Nitrobike, which was considered by critics and gamers as mediocre.
Rare has faired the best out of these four, however, even it isn't what it once was. And seeing how Microsoft has been treating its first party developers I'm a little worried about Rare's future.

I agree. This bullshit's been going on for over a year now, yet there's no real results. They kept saying it'll come soon for over a year now. I can't believe people are being stringed along by this crap.

Rumor or truth, finished or not, it would requires some leaked footage to raise my interest beyond "would buy a Star Wars compilation for budget price".
They know how to make impressive graphics, but the last Factor 5 game I enjoyed and replayed because of the gameplay was a 16bit game.

I too am worried about Rare
There games suck now
They barely get any work
A lot of there employees are either laid off or left to persue other things.
Games are selling worse than they did on N64
I am starting to wonder if Microsoft is treating them badly and I still believe Microsoft got Rare just so Nintendo couldn't have them I don't believe Microsoft actually needed them
Nintendo needs Rare that is why there hasn't been a DK home console adventure since Jungle Beat. I bet if Rare was here we would get DK Country 4, Sequal to DK64, and a finished DK Racing (not barrel blast) the true DK racer.

Considering Nintendo's profit a bit down and the Wii getting outsold by the PS3, I think the Big N can't afford to sit on properties right now (considering this rumour is true).

Can't ride on rumors.
They're mostly heresay, speculation and wishful thinking the fans fabricate to create hype.

Maybe there trying to implement new peripherals like the motion plus or balance board into the games. I do hope they bring 1 or both of them out before long though. I would love to see either. Been dying to play a brand new Pilotwings and Rouge Squadron online. Would be amazing. You can add Starfox to that. But I don't think thats something thats finished, or even in the works.

I liked Conker (multiplayer only) and Goldeneye (multiplayer only) All of there other games I could care less about as long as I get my DK I will be happy since Nintendo doesn't seem to care.

dont want 1:1 swordplay. and you also dont want that believe me...
anyway back to topic...
if the games are done, then i can see only one logical reason why they arent released and published..

Don't LucasArts release any Star Wars game regardless of quality as it sells anyway? Makes me think its now SW related.
Also weren't Factor 5 working on a RS Trilogy for the Wii a while back? What happened to that?
As for whatever they have for Nintendo, perhaps Nintendo didn't think it was good enough. I'd rather something not be released then be disapointed.

Microsoft didn't get Rare just to take it from Nintendo. Nintendo sold them to Microsoft because they "weren't making games as good as before"
I miss Rare on Nintendo platforms but seeing the games that are out for the 360 now.... Don't get me wrong, they aren't bad at all but ...blah =P

"I too am worried about Rare
There games suck now"
"Who Framed Roger Rabbit", "Spider-Man" for Game Boy, "Battletoads & Double Dragon", "Beetlejuice", "Time Lord", "WWF Superstars"
Just because they had a lucky break showing the SNES' color palette can show snapshots of animated pre-rendered 3D models made into Sprites doesn't mean that they can make water into wine.
Rare wasn't the perfect developer, they just made smart choices in their Nintendo 2nd party days and even THEN that wasn't guaranteed. I mean look how boring they made DK64.
"They barely get any work"
No, they barely make new games but Microsoft still gives them work.
"A lot of there employees are either laid off or left to persue other things."
What game development company DOESN'T have this happen to them? Ever since the days of 8-bit this happens in development studios. Your case for Microsoft being the big bad faceless money throwing demons has been overrun by a fact that plagued the videogame industry LONG before the Sony PlayStation came out.
"Games are selling worse than they did on N64"
Not sure about that. I mean really most of the 360 games cost $60 or more on release. Selling a million or a few hundred thousand still makes millions, so you can't really complain from a business perspective as long as the revenue's good.
"I am starting to wonder if Microsoft is treating them badly"
Because we all know Nintendo never stifled Rare's creativity *cough* Dinosaur Planet *cough*
Seriously, what's with you people acting like Microsoft is an abusive drunk boyfriend to Rare? Remember, Nintendo COULD have bought RARE but they didn't want to. Microsoft was buying and the Stamper Brothers simply did what any businessman would do to stay afloat and pay its programmers.
Don't paint Microsoft as these ogres that grabbed RARE by the shirt and raped them in the middle of the woods.
"and I still believe Microsoft got Rare just so Nintendo couldn't have them I don't believe Microsoft actually needed them"
What proof do you have for this that isn't feathered by childhood memories of games like Banjo Kazooie and Jet Force Gemini?
As I see it, Nintendo made it perfectly clear they weren't happy with Rare so they didn't buy the remainder of the stock to own the company. Microsoft did and Nintendo sold their share without any opposition. End of story.
"Nintendo needs Rare that is why there hasn't been a DK home console adventure since Jungle Beat."
Are you implying that Nintendo of Tokyo and Paon shouldn't make Donkey Kong games? Last I checked, King of Swing, Jungle Beat and Jungle Climber were a WHOLE LOT MORE FUN than Donkey D*ck 64.
Not that Rare did a bad job, but there's NO reason to believe that Nintendo of Tokyo and Paon would be incapable of doing a 4th Donkey Kong Country/Super Donkey Kong with real-time polygon graphics if NSMB Wii's sales prove 2D games still have steam.
"I bet if Rare was here we would get DK Country 4, Sequal to DK64, and a finished DK Racing (not barrel blast) the true DK racer."
So a game that could be done by any old developer (seriously now that 3D graphics have become the norm, it defeats the purpose of Rare doing DKC4 or any game in its vein), a sequel to the most BORING fetchquest known to man and another racing game entry which is TOTALLY not an overdone genre.
Rare should come back alright, I'm convinced.
@Roflinator
Precisely why I brought up their LJN and Gametek days.

Dude they get alot of work from microsoft. First they created Kameo power if the elements and Perfect dark zero which are both good games. Next they just redmade the banjo games and releaed nuts and bolts. They were the ones who created the avatar system and are remaking perfect dark for xbla. Also their working on a mystery project.

True, the PS3 has been slightly outselling the Wii by as few as a couple hundred since September, but this is more than made up by the Wii far outselling the PS3 in America and Europe.
The only console that's selling poorly atm is the 360. Not even Halo did anything to help spark momentum, which is largely thanks to them trying to sell an overpriced standalone expansion pack. What is Microsoft going to do now? Reach will do no better than ODST, and Natal doesn't have a release date unlike Sony's wand. Unless Microsoft does something quick (no, not viral marketing Microsoft), Sony will just continue to cannibalize their sales and close the gap on them.

Anyone else think that these "2" games suck? Returning to hardware that's like a Gamecube doesn't automaticly mean they can make a good game again.

My opinion is all that matters on a game. Reviews are just useless fluff to me, so nope. Sorry to spoil your fun kid.
I just wonder why that site is so credible over any other game site on the web [seemingly]. Is it because of their elitism [which no one can deny]?
@shingi70
That mystery project is probably just the Natal Fitness game they've confirmed to be working on I'd imagine.

You cannot grasp the true form of internal game development and publishing logistics and bureaucracy's attack!
@Inneverate
Indeed, amidst all this "Nintendo profit drop OMG!!1!" hysteria, the 360 and its struggles are truly the elephant in the room. It should be blatantly clear by now that some consoles are competing more directly than others...but that doesn't make for an exciting news story, now does it?!

Nintendo sold their 49% of stock because they had completely lost control of the company, it is the fault of the Stamper brothers (who held the majority share) that this situation happened in the first place.
Regardless, Starfox Adventures was an amazing first attempt on the Gamecube, and is arguably the best looking game of the last generation. Rare are not what they once were but the years that they were with Nintendo they were magic.
-
I of course want to believe these rumours, but considering the state Factor 5 is in and how slow they actually were with releasing games...

It's not going to do any better, because Microsoft is releasing too many Halo games. It's obvious by all the lost 'exclusives' and knee jerk moves that they are in defense mode. They have very little to offer from 1st party, and with the PS3 being the same price as the 360 gamers are seeing less reason to buy one over the system with blu-ray (useless gaming feature, but still one) and free online. Can't forget that the 360 still has the stigma of being an unreliable system.
If any company deserves all this bad press it's them, but since they are most likely the main source of all this it's obvious why you don't see this.

Yeah I know they lost control of the company but they HAD the chance to buy out RARE, the Stampers WANTED them to but Nintendo simply didn't follow up on that.
I mean this IS the same company that had Miyamoto question the viability of Donkey Kong being revived with fancy graphics and being a platformer in Mario's vein but with an ape flavor.
Rare made good games on the N64 when most people didn't but it's time to move on with your lives if you think some magical Christmas morning, Microsoft pawns off Rare and months later Banjo and Conker wind up in Smash Bros. 4. Get a grip on reality and move on with your lives.

If you read through the entire thread of said message board, you'll find that the people who report those things have been able to back it up with things like resumes, legal briefings and leaked art assets.
At any rate, to be honest, I'm not that upset. I don't have a special place much in my heart for either Pilot Wings OR Rogue Squadron.
...plus, frankly, if Factor 5 wasn't making Star Fox, than that gives me more reason to hope that it will indeed be Treasure who makes Star Fox Wii
...I thrive off of vague senses of hope.

I still fully believe Factor 5's been working on that supposed Kid Icarus game -- but there's been a struggle between the two sides (Nintendo/Factor 5) as to how Pit and his world should be graphically represented.
I'm sure F5 wants to do a semi-realistic game world, but Ninty probably wants a more fantasy/surreal-ish game.
