Finally, some more talk from Miyamoto on Spirit Tracks and Zelda Wii!
Miyamoto on Spirit Tracks...
[Zelda ST] will be really fun. It's turning out to be rather challenging. Many of our Japanese customers were introduced to the Zelda series with Phantom Hourglass, and ST could prove to be kind of hard for them, but I thought we'd show them what Zelda is really made of this time around. So it's turning into quite a unique title. I've managed to gather quite a few creative team members for Zelda ST, so I'd like Zelda Wii to also enjoy creative development as much as possible.
On Zelda Wii...
About MotionPlus. We're implementing it so that players can feel like they themselves are holding the sword. In the previous Zelda (TP Wii) the targeting was based on the IR pointer. This time however, we'll be using MotionPlus for a variety of more convenient targeting systems that will allow for more pleasant gameplay.
Once again, all I hear just little Zelda tidbits, and they get me all worked up. I'd say this is some pretty interesting, as well as positive news!

EDIT:
Oh, and about Zelda Wii: what would you guys do if you suddenly found out that EAD hadn't even started development on the game yet, and the only thing they created was the concept art?
I'm not sure what other people are saying, but I'm speculating that the Master Sword girl will follow Link around the game and during combat she'll turn into a sword. It would offer a bunch of unique puzzles, and possibly add a cooperative multiplayer aspect (the less experienced players could play as the girl maybe?).
@MrBubbles
I can see MotionPlus making the Zelda experience a lot better, but I'm not so sure where you're going with Devil May Cry. MotionPlus would be terrible in that game.
How can you explore the world if you are stuck on a train track?
I think he means instead of pointing at the sensor bar you use M+ to target the way WSR does.
Someone didn't hear the news about being able to lay down your own tracks and thus going off the beaten path it seems...
@thisboywillbreak
The computer says no.
Er? My comment was motion plus would definitely make the sword combat better but 3D Zelda games don't really focus so much on combat.
I could see it's full usage in 'gimmick' boss battles where it switches perspective for full 1:1 motion sensing.
In Devil May Cry the game is extremely in love with combat and stylish action and the protagonist uses a sword. A game like that would be an absolute blast to play with motionplus(although harder or whatever) but it wouldn't work in a game like Zelda where Link kills the easy enemies in one or two shots.
And the sword only has about a handful variation of moves for typical fights.
I'd put a lot of thought into it and I can't think of any benefits from MotionPlus Zelda sword combat like Miyamoto suggested.
EDIT: I mean the obvious would be spells using the sword like A Link To The Past but that's not really combat use. Eh?
It sounds a lot like it would use the Wii Sports Resort style of targeting more than anything. I hope it's more than just that, but it already sounds kind of cool with that alone....as long as the targeting feels good every time you bring it up.

The little bits of information do sound good, hope we hear of more sooner than later..
Then that will make this Zelda lose the reason its trying to be different from other console Zelda's, plus you'd lose some degrees of freedom with Sword fighting if you're just pressing buttons, they might have enemies in place that can only be beaten by striking an area in a certain angle.
both tidbits make me all atwitter.
@thisboy. LOL. Yeah, they'll show devs that they're 100% behind their new tech as the new standard on the console by making it optional. Not happening
God damn. I really wanna play Phantom Hourglass again.

I'm sure it would have to be structured differently in a Zelda title. You can't very well stand still and carefully aim for a bullseye during a frantic boss fight, after all. It'll have to be more of a quick, streamlined thing.
And yes, you are the only one who hates WSR archery. :p I suck at it...but that's my problem.
For a second there I thought you said you were all hard for games O_O
@MAGNUS-8M
@Deitylink101
I see.. WSR targeting method felt intuitive but a lot that depended on the calibration... Which then leaves me to think if they're going to have that fixed by the time the new Zelda is released.
As long as they have come up with a way to alliviate that issue I guess I wouldn't mind some Wii MotionPlus in my Zelda. Although after TP and after seeing the concept art use the "TP style" I can't say I'm really looking forward that much to the next Zelda yet.
The Twilight Princess art style is based on Ocarina of Time, which is what many people were begging for after the cel-shaded Wind Waker.
Why are gamers so hypocritical?
At first, gamers hate The Wind Waker style and beg for a more "mature" Zelda game.
Then Twilight Princess comes out. Gamers are divided over it. Some love it because it is a throwback to Ocarina of Time, others hate it because it isn't unique enough.
Make up your minds!
XD. That too, sometimes.

I do believe this was to be expected when the DS, and Wii Remote were announced/shown.
But hey, ya never know, right? For other iterations in the future.
I don't care for Spirit Tracks.
@Eternal Rain
I get that. I just hope it actually works and works well/doesn't require us to calibrate every 5 seconds. I don't like waggle and Zelda is one game I don't want to play with motion controls. Just my opinion, no need to eat me alive.
Zelda used to have a lot more combat. it was more action oriented and it would be great if it would come back, especially for how fun Swordplay Showdown is in Wii Sports Resort.
Have you tried it? It feels great.
@Burgers
If your Motion Plus has trouble so fast, you either have a problem with it or you always play when your batteries are low (that's the only occasion mine would start drifting between rounds).
Well, Ocarina of Time was more colorful than Twilight Princess for me, which had really dark colors.
For the arstyle, not that I didn't liked TP, but I would prefer something different. After all, it's probably not the same Link, in a different Hyrule.
For Spirit Tracks, well I can't wait for this game. PH was not too easy for me, at least, the Temple wasn't, but the game was short. But if this is harder, well, I'm all in.
now imagine the fuss gamers would make over a FPS zelda wii game? make the player really feel like they are using the sword eh? i'm not suggesting that's what will happen, but i'd love to see the outcry of everyone over the idea.
Because that's not going to do anything except eliminate the "AIM THE WII REMOTE AT THE SCREEN" thing.
@Bentendo
I already assumed they hadn't started creating it yet, so this doesn't change my stance. They said the Zelda team felt pressured by Monster Hunter 3's graphics, which, to me, means they were planning on re-using TP's (as in, re-using Gamecube graphics, straight up) so I feel like they haven't been doing a whole lot.
@Chosenoneknuckles
To the first part, why would I want to be forced to pay money for a peripheral in order to enjoy a game? Unless they pack it in.
To the second part, while I agree that it would be good to have it on the next console, that would mean we got no Wii Zelda game.
All we would have is Link's Crossbow Training to show for the Wii. And no, you can't count TP, because it's a Gamecube game. It was built for Gamecube and ported to Wii. It's nothing more than a New Play Control! title.
That would really suck.
It'd be packed in. Obviously.
Yes, it would suck, but I'd be nice to nip that inevitable whinefest in the bud. Also, Crossbow Training used the TP engine, making it a Gamecube-lite title too.
The old combat system is brilliant, but it is also the aspect of the series that has endured the least change. If they can overhaul that it could add the freshness that some feel (not me!) the series needs.
It doesn't HAVE to be first person either, locking the camera on to an enemy and facing them over-the-shoulder style (like RE4) would offer the combat great precision, make it far more intense, realistic and possibly challenging. Imagine fighting a Darknut at such close range, knocking back the creatures sword and chipping off bits of armour.
@MoldyClay
I think you are taking Iwata's comments on graphics too literally, he was likely just being respectful. TP already kicks the crap out of MH3 technology-wise and if they put that much effort into Mario Galaxy why change that with Zelda? (Zelda has always been their showcase title)
As for your comment on using M+ for targetting, disregarding the pointer so that the sensor never needs calibrating... you have a point.
@Chosenoneknuckles
Mario Galaxy shut people up for a while on the whole graphics argument, so if Zelda Wii looks as astounding as it rightfully should dare I say the Wii might get some respect!

Come on Miyamoto, don't let me down. The next Zelda has to be at least so difficult that six year old children can't beat Ganon (it has happened...).
"Because that's not going to do anything except eliminate the 'AIM THE WII REMOTE AT THE SCREEN" thing.' "
Which is more than enough for me. That was so obnoxious, with it taking up the whole screen and all.
While the IR is more than capable of doing the obvious pointing for shooting, targeting like Wii Sports Resort Archery demonstrates the versatility of WM+.
Oh wow. You're right.
So even with that, we still have no Wii Zelda. RAGE.
@aLex387
I don't know if it was because the demo was messed up (as in, the way the remote was calibrated or something), but when I did Archery at EB, it didn't at all feel like real archery or play like I thought it would, which ruined my expectations for this using it.
But yes, that was obnoxious, so I guess that would be a good thing.
@Dr_Peace
Well, the artwork being the same style/artist as TP helped my assumption that it will be using the same graphics/engine.
I really hope to be disproved, because I love Zelda. I just don't want Gamecube graphics. Not because I didn't like TP's, I thought they were great, but if they were some of the best Gamecube could do, I want to see what the Wii can do, expanding upon that, rather than playing it safe, which is something Nintendo often does.
And I agree, if they can put the effort that was put into Galaxy, into Zelda, then I will be glad. It would potentially look amazing.
i'm surprised though , i was sure they would keep aiming pointer based . That's also means zelda will definitely based on motion+, i didn't know that. Exclusively motion plus or not , i will get it . I hope they 'll think of some form of online multiplayer . It seems to be the only relevant factor nowadays to get those "hardcore" gamers and the sales . And also i liked that labyrinth thingy on hourglass.
after a long session of wsr's archery, i did notice that sort of nervous aiming would be good in so many games. Miyamoto and nintendo do know best in that area

@Bentendo
I really wouldn't mind at all. Though, I'm still expecting a trailer at E3 and a release come Winter [with SMG2 in the summer].
Though, if it hadn't started development yet, then the good thing about it would that it'd be for the next console and we can escape the TP visual comparisons & no HD whinefests...
