November 3, 2009 by The News Team Filed Under: DS, Nintendo in general

The full investor Q&A transcript is online right now, but it's only in Japanese. An English version will come up soon, but we can sift through some of the few translated details for now.

- Miyamoto is working on both a DS game that's played in the home, and a DS game for a public space (we heard of the public space game before)
- Miyamoto is exploring the public space option thanks to Dragon Quest IX's public exchange mode
- Miyamoto's official statement on cats: "Also, I've recently been caring for cats. That is all." to which Iwata replied: "He just gave a big hint."

Is that an actual game hint? That we don't know, as text doesn't really convey the difference between a joke and a fact. I'm thinking more along the lines of a joke, but you never know!

I remember him stating that a DS project was taking most of his time; I'm guessing it's either of this, or perhaps both.

Well, I'm gonna take the 'hint' side; I expect a cat-related game in the foreseeable future. I, uh, I hope I'm wrong :P

Nintencats is definitely confirmed. I think. Also uh....Miyamoto has a hand in the new generation of Pokemon? I kid but you know that doesn't sound too bad. Does it?

My respect for Miyamoto just went up a lot more. And it was obvious that Nintendo is pro-cats, if you keep the news and photo channels from the Wii in mind. :)
I'm thinking it will be Nintencats too, but oh well, that's okay. Those games just aren't my thing. :P

You say that like it's a bad thing! Bigger library = more awesome support
The more, the merrier I say, more even so with first party games.

If it really is Nintencats that'd be awful.
Although I guess it'll end up being something along those lines or Wii Music or similar stuff.

@Monodi

Eh, well, this Nintencats idea sounds like the most likely hint but I doubt they'd want to release that on the DS. Nintendogs still sells and the concept would be too similar to warrant another one.

Perhaps this is a Wii game? That way they could differentiate it from Nintendogs and the DS.

Or it could have something to do with another franchise. It's quite a stretch, but Twilight Princess had pictures of Link taking care of cats in a forest and I recall Miyamoto hinting that you'd be raising animals. It's possible I suppose.

My money is on a pet sim though. Much, much more obvious hint towards that.

Why would Iwata go out of his way to say "he just gave a huge hint" if it was something as obvious as a "Nintencats"?

it doesn't appear that ds game at home would use the wii . such a wasted opportunity mixing zelda fourswords +pacman vs + ffcc = ?. At that point i'll take anything.

isn't there a dream cats game by the maker of the dreamcast ?

So "Nintencats" may still happen, I assume.

What exactly would fit into the categories of "DS game you play at home" and "DS game you play in public?" I just play my DS at home most of the time anyway.

@Monodi

Maybe he was joking that its a hint that Miyamoto's becoming crazy, continuing off the tape measurer thing from the last interview, and it doesn't mean anything?

I don't want to get my hopes raised too high for anything, so unless (or until) final and official word comes out, I'll just assume that's it.

Not to mention Nintendo somehow wanting to go back to the pet simulation waters that Ubisoft tainted blood red with their flood of Petz and Imagine games.

nintencats would be the worst game ever...there would be nothing to do except toss the cats of higher and higher platforms to watch the flail to land on their feet.
