Just another "fools and their money scam." I run a video game addiction clinic, too! Just give me all your games and pay me a $22'000.00USD service charge. If you lapse back into your addiction, then good news! My clinic will still be running.

Laugh all you want, but it's probably a real problem for some people, and some of them would need help.
November 3, 2009 at 5:27 pm
Oh noes, that made me soooooo angry!
/sarcasm
Hey guys, people can get addicted to games, that doesn't mean they are necessarily evil either. Being addicted to anything is bad, especially when it replaces things like sleep or proper eating.
Some balance please.

Wow, one star on youtube and here I don't even see one seriously irritaded comment.
And they say GoNintendo is infested with angry fanboys?

No problem here. The problem of game addiction is real however, and some people are just more susceptible to addictions. OCD is always a possibility when it comes to games, though it doesn't really affect all addictions, at least not directly.
But whatever, as long as this clinic is filled with people with the intent to actually help it's clients rather than just make money off them, then it couldn't bother me any less.

How is it offensive? Some people can get addicted to anything, to the point of needing some help. This includes video games.
I don't like when they clump ALL people who play games as mental nutcases, but I don't pretend there is no such thing as people who DO get addicted.
This is like a drug addict getting raging mad at a report about drug busts. Or a smoker getting mad at a report about smoking being bad for your health. Do most of them care? Probably not (maybe a select few). That's why I find it silly to get mad at this.

Please calm down RMC, nothing to have blood boiled over here. Basically, some people fall into addiction, due to psychological circumstances. It's not particularly the games' fault. The only annoying thing would be if this generated more news than a youtube video.
November 3, 2009 at 5:50 pm
Curious, nobody in youtube has commented but there already have been some evaluations.
And yes, WoW players can become VERY addicted, so there isn't a big deal.

People can get addictive to games...and work, and studying, and lifting weights, and cooking, and eating and...
There's nothing new under the sun.

My roommate was incredibly addicted to COD4, he could have really used this. Now he has failed out of college and his life sucks. I don't see the problem here.
November 3, 2009 at 6:27 pm
I didn't see anything wrong with this video. Although that psychiatrist's stare was rather strange.
November 3, 2009 at 6:27 pm
I with the others asking what is there to be offended by? Some people may have a serious addiction to video games and if this clinic would help them, how is that bad?
Video games aren't infallible. They have the ability to cause problems.

What was there to be offended by? Wait...
Me thinks RMC is a game addict.

well, i doubt anything they could say would get my blood boiling (considering nothing they could say that was true is insulting)
but it is still pathetic how they handle all this, i like that old ladies response though, about how its only addictive in the way a book can be
@PiFace
actually, video games ARE infallible, they themselves cant to anything wrong, they have no will, no sentience, they are guilt free, a person who can become addicted to games is the same kind of person who can become addicted to tobacco, weed, alcohol, tv, porn, picking his nose, driving backwards, etc

didn't find anything wrong. I am sure there are gamers, like us and then there are addicted gamers like some people who are addicted to gambling. I usually define the term addicted when something is done to the point where it affects your social, financial, and physical health in a negative way.
November 3, 2009 at 7:53 pm
That woman's comment about the book makes sense.
And the report wasn't so infuriating... just kinda stupid.

Yes, yes. I apologize for that. I misunderstood the meaning of the word. So in trying to sound smarter than I am, I ended up sounding dumber.

Yeah, I didn't get as angry about this as Rawmeat apparently did. There were some lame comments, such as the thing about not eating. If you're so addicted to a videogame that you don't feed yourself, than you have your own problems that are in no way the fault of that particular game. They did also have reasonable comments from some people, so it didn't feel like mindless one-sided bashing.
I'm sure videogames can be addictive to some people, but those people likely have an addictive personality and can get addicted to pretty much anything. I have a fairly addictive personality, but I actually get more obsessed with browsing the web and looking at forums than I do with videogames. The videogames I do have a hard time pulling myself away from tend to be more casual games, such as the PopCap games (LOVE Plants vs. Zombies) and The Sims. With Nintendo games and console games I'm general, while I love them, I tend to not get as addicted to them. Nintendo games are great in frequent but shorter sessions of 1-2 hours. Although I can easily sit and play a Zelda game for 4 or 5 hours straight.
Also, DS games are definitely more addictive than Wii games for whatever reason.

This makes me upset. I dont say that u cant get addicted, ofc u can! Wth! Im addicted. And im not saying that some people need help. The problem is that they make it sound like its some kind of drug and state some bullshit statements. Open ur eyes people. They are jerks and dont know s*** about the gaming world.

I don't get why my blood was supposed to boil.
It sounded like half of that was FOR gaming.
And gamers CAN get addicted, but it's mostly computer gamers, not console gamers. World of Warcraft specifically.
Anyone that IS offended, I feel bad that you don't know what you're talking about.
People who play PC games CAN get terribly addicted.
Fact: People HAVE died from not eating while play World of Warcraft straight for days, and in internet cafes:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&clie ... f&oq=&aqi=
And there was a time where a couple went into an internet thing to play an online game, left their baby in the car, and the baby died.
AND
http://www.smh.com.au/news/World/Online ... 40188.html
A kid was killed for selling an item IN-GAME that was won in a contest, in China.
So before anyone acts offended, it's all true, and people HAVE died, killed, and so on, over computer games, so yes, it CAN get as bad as drugs.
The problem here is that any of you who are offended are taking the "addicted" part to mean like "OH MAN, I PLAY GAMES FOR LIKE 6 HOURS WHEN I GET HOME, EVERY DAY" and act like that's an addiction. We're talking people who have addictive personalities that actually play for hours and hours, potentially evading sleep and things. It's different.
Is it common or well-known? No. But it's not imaginary.

Instead of getting angry one should be happy that there is some serious and balanced media coverage for once.

Um, no, just because something isn't alive doesn't mean it's not dangerous. You are also mixing up a bunch of words that don't mean anything together, and trying to put all the blame on the addicted person, and that is not fair.
Drugs like tobacco and alcohol contain highly addictive chemicals. Although some people may have more addictive temperaments that will exacerbate the effects of those chemicals, that is still a property of the chemical itself and its interaction with the human brain. It is not the same as driving backwards or picking your nose.
Video games are not alive, so it doesn't make sense to hold them morally accountable. But that doesn't mean they aren't addictive, and they are not without properties or content. They are designed by intelligent minds (designers who can be held morally accountable), and intentionally so to be compelling to play. They do have inherent qualities that lend them to being addictive, especially World of Warcraft (which I would not touch with a six foot pole tbh).

I used to have this problem actually. Video game addiction is serious. I used to play my Nintendo so much that I wouldn't take a shower or eat all day.
You can become addicted to video games just as easily as cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, sex, etc.
