November 5, 2009 by RawmeatCowboy Filed Under: Wii, Rumors

Have you been wondering why it's taken so long to get screenshots and footage of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare -- Reflex Edition? Well, it may very well be because of a spat between Treyarch and Infinity Ward.

Infinity Ward is the creator of the original Modern Warfare, but Treyarch is the team behind the Wii version, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare -- Reflex Edition. As we know from yesterday's IW quote, their team doesn't really see the Wii as being able to handle the cinematic experience of Modern Warfare 2, so you would think the same of the original title. This could have very well lead to some problems with Treyarch, since they did the Wii port.

Now we hear that that Treyarch wasn't allow to add an intro movie for their own logo. It's all Activision and Infinity Ward, as seen above. Sounds like things are pretty bad between the two dev houses. Thanks to Temp for the heads up.

yeah they are just jealous that they have to eat their words that the Wii can't handle CoD4, and now they are jealous because Treyarch using their talents, showed them how wrong they were.

VERY unprofessional.

Makes sense - IW wants people to think the Wii can't do CoD, so they cry and moan to get what they want. Since they want people to think the Wii is inferior, they strong-arm Activision into giving less attention to CoD: Reflex, which paints MW2 in a far, FAR more favorable light.

Ideally, MW: Reflex's reputation goes dead in the water, tanks at market, and leads to no more Wii ports, as the system "can't handle the cinematic experience."

Dirty pool, IW. Dirty, dirty pool.

That sounds like what I sent you a few weeks ago RMC, from gamefaqs/gamespot forums. It looks like that conspiracy is coming true.

IW is full of idiots.

F.A.G.S. controversy (combined with "we should do our own marketing" bonus)
Crippling the PC version
Being HD fanboys

And now they can't even let Treyarch attempt to make a decent game?

Congrats, IW. Cocks of the year.

Eff IW. They are lazy punks and Treyarch deserves better. A Treyarch dev even talked on fourms about the game answering many questions about Reflex. Treyarch is an amazing team and they were able to port something that was very difficult to a less powered system and did a damn good job on it too. I will buy this game day one, and I hope Treyarch will get more credit for there hard work. Hope more coverage on the subject of IW and Treyarch come soon so credit is given where it is deserved.

and IW and Activision purposely sent out the alpha images that were glitched up to kill the hype for the game. They are such asses. They show an incomplete build of the game which is a HUGE PR marketing mistake, and then they show nothing of the complete version of the game at all. NOW they are removing user vids from Youtube of the game.

ALL this because Treyarch showed them that their precious CoD can work well on the Wii and look good as well.

Asses.

ya know what. i'll be buying this game (obvisouly, i'll be downloading it ASAP cuz, for real, i want to bite one) but the moment this game steps in my local reatailer i'll grab it.

as for MW2, pirating it all the way for pc. i just want it for the single player game. if i want a compeling online shooter, WaW, The Conduit, Combat Arms and maybe reflex will keep me occupied

@The_Dude1212

I'm tempted, I hate pirating, but I do not own an HD console, and the PC version is horribly limited online.
Treyarch, good job.

Let them know you care.

In the end, everybody wins, Activision is going to get more sales than with a regular "one year old port" and Wii owners are finally acknowledging the quality of Reflex...getting the final footage at this moment made all the difference in the world, and the "poor, underapreciated developer" image is a master stroke.

God screw IW. As far as I'm concerned Treyarch are forced to copy a boring franchise IW created. Sure they make meh games but they certainly aren't any less good than the IW editions. Don't know why people have to be stuck up and snobby. I mean Jesus, extremely repetitive and cheesy shooters are all the same.

Here's my theory, if this 'spat' is real. I think it's due to Infinity Ward and Treyarch taking turns on the franchise each year. This year is IW's turn, but with Treyarch working on the Wii version (with a similar subtitle to their work), IW may feel there is a breach in contract? They may feel that Treyarch is munching in on their 2009/2010 revenue stream. Which they need since IW only works on one franchise every other year, where as Treyarch works on more than one franchise. My solution to that is this: IW needs to stop their bias against the Wii and make their own damn Call of Duty Wii, if they don't want Treyarch munching in on their 'year'. The Wii version of World At War sold over a million copies, you think Activision wants to ignore that and skip the Wii like they did in 2007, because their premodonna developer scoffs at the Wii? BS talks money walks. Get with the program Infinity Ward!

Activision is the publisher--blame it on them. They have two development teams taking turns on the same franchise. A rival spat is inevitable. Activision controls the rights over Call of Duty, so it doesn't matter how IW or Treyarch wants things handled--Activision has the final say so over the release of media concerning Call of Duty.

This 'spat' is only a rumor, however the lack of Wii footage on this game is due to Activsion. Maybe they don't want to diminish the reputation of the franchise by showcasing the 'inferior' Wii port of a 2 year old game. However, this is their game and they shouldn't leave it out to fail.

Hehe.. That was pretty low. IW is going to loose a lot of respect from some Wii owners, HD owners probaly won't give a damn.

I think you're looking into it too much.

IW and Activision wouldn't fun a game then intentionally try to ruin it's sales, that's really stupid business. Activision wants to make money, and if CoD games sell on the Wii they don't care the quality.

More likely the companies just have zero faith in Treyarch and the abilities of the Wii.

When Tryarch made a game that is probably pretty good (still no 360 or PS3 version) they want to take claim for it.

Well of course.

Infinity Ward doesn't think the Wii can handle Modern Warfare, but when Treyarch proves that it CAN, in fact handle it just fine, IW wants all the credit because it's just a port of "THEIR" game.

And to the guy above, if Activision had "Zero Faith" in Treyarch or the Wii, then they wouldn't have bothered LETTING them make ports of World at War OR Modern Warfare in the first place, now would they? Activision has all the faith in the WORLD in the Nintendo Wii. Wanna know why? Because with few exceptions, their games like Guitar Hero etc. sell VERY well, if not the BEST on Wii.

As for them not caring about the quality, please. World at War was (according to reviews) one of the best looking and playing 3rd party Wii games. This looks to be the same. The quality looks just fine to me.

Of course the Wii side of things is bizarro land where Treyarch is a better developer than Infinity Ward.

I wonder if, indeed, the conspiracy is coming true? Why the heck is the logo not on the starting screen?

I'm tempted to buy the game just to support them. Treyarch was the publisher to Die by the Sword... man, I loved, LOVED that game.

EDIT: scratch that, they DEVELOPED it. I wish they would bring back the VSIM system... on the Wii.

@Scherzo

Devs are all lazy on the Wii because they are kissing the butts of the HD TWINS...worshipping their superior processing, 1080p visuals and polygon pushing power.
I don't think they are going to like being proved wrong one bit.
Modern Warfare 2 i think can not only run on the Wii it would most likely outdo REFLEX here.

You see people need to understand somthing, the Wii can't do what devs will never try...or plain and simply...DO THE WORK to get it done.

After that statrment people will really believe the Wii can't handle that game ...because w/e devs say is golden right?

It can't be possibly they are HD biased and simlpy DO NOT WANT TO make the effort to do what it takes to make a Wii engine to make the compramises to make it run on the Wii.

This goes for not only them but alot of devs in the industry I'm sure of it.

Just look at the state of the CORE Wii market 3 years in.

Wow, I wonder how much more Infinity Ward can make themselves look like douchebags before MW2 releases?

...they've been doing a great job of coming off like a****** in the last few weeks.

that said, this port still looks like total garbage and shouldn't have ever happened. I hope those of you defending Treyarch and the Wii being capable of cinematic experiences are bearing this in mind...
