November 6, 2009 by The News Team Filed Under: DS, Wii, Nintendo in general

I'll update this post after every commercial break...

- Reggie wanted to see more marketing support for Dead Space: Extraction
- Reggie says that core gamers crying about nothing on Wii should open up their eyes, and reach into their wallets
- Reggie thinks New Super Mario Bros. Wii will outsell Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on one platform by January NPD data

Commercial break

- NSMBW: Yoshi can pick up power-ups in his mouth and spit them out for other players
- Reggie says Nintendo has been 'holding something back' about Spirit Tracks, which will be revealed later in the show

Commercial break

- Spirit Tracks is a Phantom Hourglass sequel
- The game begins with Link going to his graduation ceremony for completion of train engineering school. He will no longer be an apprentice engineer after this ceremony.
- Link and the Phantom work together in the Tower of the Spirits
- Tablets are collected in this tower
- Super Mario Galaxy 2 is in the middle of being finalized
- Goal is to offer more challenge in Super Mario Galaxy 2
- Zelda Wii cannot be talked about right now, other than the MotionPlus stuff we already know
- exclusive trailer for Spirit Tracks coming with a 'major twist'

Commercial break

- The Spirit Tracks trailer shows Link walking around with Zelda in spirit form after she has been attacked by a mystery enemy, which seems to come down from a ghost train. It seems like Zelda's spirit is with you for a large portion of the game, and she actually flies inside the Phantom to control it. Zelda rides/flies along with you while you're on the train.
- Reggie reconfirms Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M for 2010 release
- Reggie says they haven't confirmed Zelda Wii for 2010 release
- Reggie says that Michael Pachter is the only one that believes Wii HD is going to happen.
- Reggie says Wii HD is not coming
- We have to wait a little longer to find out more about the Vitality Sensor
- Reggie hasn't seen the Vitality Sensor since E3 2009

Show end

I agree with Reggie. Those who don't see core games on Wii either have too niche of taste in terms of what they consider core or are just too damn cheap to actually buy the games and would prefer to complain.

Also I bet Mario Bros. Wii outsells any other software title this holiday season.

What Reggie can't understand about people is a lot of them can't afford to buy every game they want and they have to either find a job or are still looking for a job.

As for NSMB Wii being a big seller i agree.

This. 1,000 times, this. Right now I have a stack of games still in the shrink wrap that I have to play through, including A Boy and His Blob, Muramasa, and Geometry Wars. There's more than enough to keep the average "hardcore" gamer happy - they just choose not to see the things right before their eyes. :)

Ya know, not everyone is a stuck up a****** like yourself.

Some of us actually have jobs and things to pay for like living expenses, bills, and food.

We don't have money to go around and just spend money on some "hardcore" games just because a bunch of other 13 year old boys want us too.

"core gamers crying about nothing on Wii should open up their eyes, and reach into their wallets"

Says the man who called Animal Crossing a core gamer's game.

I'm not going to disagree, as I've found many, many enjoyable core games for Wii, but Nintendo of America could easily do a better job silencing these 'cries' by actually releasing the titles NCL develops.

Yeah, I agree... I am starting to see the trend (or just finally accepting it). A majority of folks bought the Wii just to play Nintendo franchises and ignore everything else on the system. They won't necessarily admit it though and find lame excuses (on-rails, black and white, 5 hours long, too niche, re-hashed, to violent, generic, no local multiplayer, naughty language, not enough advertising, no money, etc) as to why third-party titles fail. So, after they stop complaining they have no money to buy xx third-party core title, they always seem to find money to purchase the next Mario and pals [insert your favorite franchise] title.

So many excellent, well put together, quality third-party Wii games were just plain ignored this year (and past years) and it's a damn shame. It's pretty sad if you just limit yourself to playing Nintendo franchises.

I feel sorry for third-party Wii developers and publishers right now if they have a new game on the market with NSMBW and Zelda DS in town. I can also understand why some developers don't want to put their titles on Wii - how do you compete against Nintendo's own franchises and advertising power?

This was the HUGE show?
That wasn't very amazing at all :\
In all honesty, they'd better have a good reason why Link decides to go to engineering school after saving the world... He's supposed to find the new Hyrule.. Did Phantoms Hourglass make him forget that?

SIN AND PUNISHMENT!!!

I didn't watch the show, but it didn't sound all that hot from what I've read on here. Then again, I'm not into Zelda and I'm not THAT big on the upcoming Mario titles. So to make it all worth while, I'll just shout at the top of my internet lungs

SIN AND PUNISHMENT!!! 2!!! SUCCESSOR TO THE SKY!!!

@Snesboy

Why only Zelda and Metroid? I'm not really into Zelda or Metroid. At least the 3D titles. They just don't really seem like the kind of games I want to play. That's why I always feel left out when people go on about Mario, Zelda and Metroid. I guess I'm not big on action adventure and first person shooters?

Core does not mean hardcore. I hope you guys realize that.

"What Reggie can't understand about people is a lot of them can't afford to buy every game they want and they have to either find a job or are still looking for a job."

Reggie wasn't saying that everyone should go out and buy core games. Reggie was directing this argument specifically toward people crying about a lack of core titles. It was not meant to insult you because you don't have money, unless of course you're broke and b**** about a lack of games.

"Why play NSMBW when I already own it on DS?"

Because you don't own it on the DS. Putz.

"NSMBW is just the DS game with multiplayer."

No it's not. And that statement officially wins the ignorance of the week award.

@terryxlr

That's just it though. S&P 2 is the exception to the rule regarding NOA and the Wii. It's a terribly niche (core) title that's hardly a mass appeal, even with Nintendo fans, and has had very mediocre sales.

And yet NOA has announced it's potential release? Why S&P 2? How many people does NOA think are buying this game? How many bought the first one? Are there people out there waiting to drop $50 S&P2, who didn't spend the $10 for the original?

NOA says "no" to Disaster DoC, Fatal Frame IV, and Trace Memory 2? But we receive S&P 2 when there is just as much of a reason to release each/any/all of these games? And each of them have been passed over, and each is generally considered a 'core' title.

But yeah, open your eyes and wallet...

@WarioFan63

Yeah, I've read that too...And I don't believe a word of it.

@WiiFolder

The last time I checked, fully featured, non-rehashed, quality RPG's, non-kart racing games with online play, and non rail FPS' aren't "niche", at all, and actually the last one I mentioned is one of the most popular genres ever, like it or not.

There's Fire Emblem, Tales of Graces, and Arc Rise as far as Rpg's go, and one of those isn't out yet, and another isn't in America yet. The other Tales game can't really count as it's honestly just ToS 1.1

For QUALITY non kart racing games there's..........Excitebots, I don't know I guess that's not the same as a kart racer............and NFS nitro maaybe but even it doesn't have online play.

And I've played every FPS shooter on the Wii and I don't think any of them are of the same caliber as the ones on other consoles, but Red Steel 2 may change that.

I see where Reggie's coming from, really I do, and I happy for him and I'll let him finish, but maybe he should make some real core games before whining.

@Snesboy...

What are you talking about? You sound like an idiot, we've already gone over the fact the while NSMBW may have the same "artstyle" as the DS version, it's a completely different game. Talk about people ignoring the obvious and seeing what they want to see, just to complain.
And if you loved the DS version so much, why wouldn't you want an updated better version WITH COMPLETELY NEW LEVELS AND BOSSES. OMG get a friggin' clue man. This stupid crap gets so old. Do people ignore the facts just so they have something to complain about? What a world...

Sorry for the rant, but this ish get old.

Yes, the Wii has plenty of core games. But how many of them are actually worth your time and money as compared to the games released on the PS3/360.
PS3/360 games are developed with more effort and bigger budgets to cater to the needs of gamers(not everyone, and/or aka casuals) because they are depending on them to make a profit.

I guess that being a multi-console owner and in tough economic times(yeah, I know kinda ironic) you have to very picky on what you buy and choose what will give you the most entertainment value for your money.
In this sense, I guess that the Wii's line-up does seem pretty weak.

Oh well, but I guess that it is a suggestive kind of thing that varies with each individual anyways. My taste is far different from everyone else.

@DoubleDragon

Grow up and realize that Mario is overabundant and that you don't have to love Mario to love SNES. There ARE other games on it, bro.

@Scarpine

This, which, by extension means I am actually agreeing with Wii Folder on something.

However, @DarkShadow , this as well.

@Shaanyboi

No need to call names. Nintendo doesn't have signs up saying "This takes place a century after PH" for everyone to know. Hell, I didn't even know it until today (I had no internet when it was posted on here).

The comment about core gamers crying seemed strange. Maybe its just people who prefer games with a significant amount of content to hold their interest for longer.

Either way, my PS3 is what the games will be pouring in for over the next few months.

However, some nice info. Looking forward to New Super Mario Bros. Wii a little bit. But I'm a lot more excited about Galaxy 2 and Other M. Spirit Tracks is a meh for me, I didn't buy Phantom Hourglass (mostly because of the stupid Temple of the Ocean King) but if they can avoid something that crap in this game, I'm willing to sway it into my "Buy" pile.
