"Modern Warfare 2 is on two platforms. On a single platform...absolutely. I say that unequivocally. On one particular platform, I do believe so. You've got to give me the entire holiday selling season, so let's take it all the way through the January NPD data. ...It's going to be close. Modern Warfare is a a great title. As a gamer, I look forward to it. The new Modern Warfare, I think is going to be a fantastic title. Not to discount it, it will sell well. Of course I'll play it...I play all the content out there." - Reggie Fils-Aime
I definitely think New Super Mario Bros. Wii could take Modern Warfare 2 on one platform. That platform might end up being the PS3, but it'll still happen.

Who will be victorious!
NSMBWii will only do as well because it's the only first party Ninty game this Holiday season. If the new Zelda/Metroid or even Galaxy 2 was out, they'd vastly outsell NSMBWii, but I could be wrong. I just feel like seeing a retro title like NSMBWii as an obscurity now a days. lol
Either way, I'll be buying both titles. (along with Spirit Tracks. That trailer sold me!)
My prediction.
Either way I'm picking up Modern Warfare 2 asap.
Not saying that it will ensure a failure on the numbers, but it has been affecting the secondary target audience.
People know how awesome classic 2D Mario is. This is that, and then some. No online? Who gives a crap? It's classic Mario, for Wii.
People want to blow each other up in endless death matches while talking trash over headsets? Great. Maybe MW2 will outsell NSMB in November.
But I think NSMB will have amazing "legs", and it will eventually outsell it by a longshot. MKWii has sold over 18 million copies. That's not only insane, but in my mind, NSMBWii is going to be a much better game and a much bigger deal. It's the first CLASSIC style Mario game for a home console since 1991. That's a big deal. I think NSMBWii has an opportunity to sell at least half as much as much as NSMBDS eventually did, which is almost 20 million. Considering the DS has twice the install base as the Wii, that's a fair estimate. Good Mario games sell like crazy, too ALL types of gamers, period.
Me, give me choice between a generic FPS with great online, or a retro Mario game with all the best features of Mario 3 and World, plus tons of new stuff? Hmmm....no wait, let me think about it.
Mario. By a landslide. And I'm sure many other gamers will feel that way too. I know a LOT of people who are stoked for this game, and no, not all of them are Nintendo geeks. A couple, in fact, haven't even really been into games in the last several years.
This game is gonna own, straight up.
I don't doubt that. And I'm not one of the ravingly blind people that support everything Mario.
I didn't even want NSMBW until last month.
@Devil_Rising
Ignoring the fanboy designated by the avatar, check this:
Reggie is comparing a Wii game to a PS360 game (Modern Warfare 2, not the one for Wii). So this is including PS360 only owners, as well as multi-console owners.
Call of Duty, while a game series that I have NO interest in, is ALSO a franchise that sells itself.
All of your discussion about legs and outselling overtime is irrelevant. It's obvious that it will outsell it over time. Reggie's talking about the holiday season specifically, though, so that's all irrelevant.
Of course YOU would choose that over Mario.
Modern Warfare sold around 3.5 million on the 360 alone in the 2007-2008 holiday (Nov-Jan), but the PS3 version was not nearly as impressive, barely reaching a million.
So if you use that logic, in 3 months, Mario could definitely beat the PS3 version, but we'll have to see if it will beat the 360 version (assuming it generates similar sales to the original).
What? You're online at 7am? What's wrong with you?
Probably not too well since Activision's done a piss poor job of trying to promote it.
We all know which one will have the long tail at least.
NSMB definitely will not outsell the 360 version of Modern Warfare 2 for the holiday season.
I personally am not that interested in NSMB Wii. Right now my dilemna is deciding if I should buy Modern Warfare 2 for the PS3 or the 360. Heck, after seeing footage of Reflex I'm even considering that! I never thought Activision would have me in deep thought over any of their games....
LMAO!!! @ JamPony
I already know plenty of people who are wanting MW2...on the 360.
I can definitely see NSMBWii outselling the PS3 version no problem. Though if it's the 360 he's hoping to outsell with NSMBWii, well... REALLY doubt that'll happen.
You answered your own question, or statement, Garf good buddy.
"MW2 is something all fans buy day one"
Reggie said give him until the end of January.
So there you go.
@Topic
You do know that the 360 version of Modern Warfare didn't sell more than Mario Galaxy and that both hd platforms combined, MW sold 7 million less than Mario Kart Wii right?
It's maybe the biggest hit the HD systems have but its not big enough to stop Mario.
Oh and as system sales this last week go the Wii sold just a little under the 360 and PS3 combined worldwide. So feast on that.
I can see NSBWii outselling both PS3 and PC versions.
I also think it's very likely that NSMBWii will outsell all versions of MW2 when this generation is over, just as Mario Kart Wii has already decimated the "hardcore" competition.
--R.J.
having said that, it will be an interesting race for sure.
This is hardly a bet. And MW is a 3rd party title.
It's sad that Nintendo has to bet their #1 in popularity 1st party title will beat a 3rd party title on another console. It really is quite telling.
Wii Fit sold out in Japan, Europe and North America during each region's launch. I figure much of the Wii Fit/Wii Sports and Mario Kart Wii crowd will be picking up Super Mario Bros.
So with a combination of core gamers and the expanded audience grabbing the title, I see the sales potential there. Absolutely.
~reggie,
so you're comfortable not securing any sort of modernwarfare 2 for wii gamers?
This goes against Nintendo furiously claiming they 'arent in competition' with other consoles. Oh, really. 'We dont respond, they are responding to us'. Oh, really.
AND, this puts a bigger barrier between Nintendo and third parties. JUST WHAT THE WII NEEDS! "Hey third parties, I bet our game will outsell yours, LOL!" Maybe not the smartest thing to say when third parties are already iffy on Wii support, huh?
For shame, Reggie. This is just stupid. Plus what I said about Mario being Nintendo's biggest franchise, which is no lie.
Pathetic.
if third parties are that sore about it then they should try harder to reach that already high bar that Nintendo set for them.
"While it is common to say that Nintendo is “not competing”, a more accurate assessment would be to say that Nintendo and MS/Sony have different values." - http://malstrom.50webs.com/drowningintheblueocean3.htm
I'll tell you what Burgers, when third parties stop putting the third and fourth-string teams on development of Wii titles, and start using their first and second-string teams, I'll start showing them a little more love.
Which is why I will pick up Monster Hunter 3 so long as it doesn't have a subscription fee.
So A Boy and His Blob is not a first or second-string team? Muramasa? Dead Space Extraction?
What the hell kind of expectations do you have? I had no idea games were suddenly awful because they weren't produced by the first and second-string teams. You must have bought 0 games from third parties so far. Truly sad.
No wonder third parties are not trying on Wii, between Nintendo bragging that their first-party titles sell way more, and fickle consumers like you who lash out at every title that is not a huge major production regardless of how good it is... why would they bother? Who's left?
@WiiLikeSportz
No, actually I am saying Nintendo doesn't get (for the most part) that kind of immense third party sales on the Wii like are on the PS3/360, and as such it is somewhat counter-intuitive for them to be bragging that another of their 1st party titles will outsell another 3rd party title that possibly COULD have come to Wii (why would they want to bring it now though?)
I never said Muramasa's numbers were bad. I do own a Boy and his Blob and it is good. I am saying there are many users on here who will trash those two games JUST because they are not up to the 'calibur' of PS3/360 games, and they do that with basically every third party game instead of at least trying them. Not a good thing.
Yeah... name a '1st party' title for the other two that sells better than the first MW.
It's pretty sad the biggest sales for the other two come from third party titles is I think what you're saying...
You are quite telling: telling us all a bunch of bullshite made to make nintendo look bad over nothing.
@Burgers
Muramasa's numbers are great. We don't have NPD on boy and his blob yet, but I own it. Do you?
What are you trying to do?
@Burgers
Dude it gets to a point where one has to wonder what you are even trying to say.
I don't even want to continue this 'conversation.' Don't you folks ever realize how bitter you sound over nothing?
Just chill the hell out unless you can tell me a damn good reason why this is 'so serious' that terms like 'pathetic' need to be bandied about CONSTANTLY.
The gunman in Orlando that just shot 6 of his co-workers and killed one is PATHETIC and worth getting mad about, something most people are just reading about and having a discussion over what corporate executives say about video games is NOT.
----
Nintendo titles are only sold on Nintendo consoles and they are the highest selling video game company in the world. If they were 3rd party that would still be true. Doesn't that make sense to ANYBODY?!?!?!
NINTENDO IS THE BIGGEST SELLING DEVELOPER/PUBLISHER IN HISTORY PERIOD FOR DECADES. IF THEY CAN ONLY SELL ON ONE SYSTEM THEN THEY ARE GOING TO DOMINATE. THEY DOMINATE THE OTHER SYSTEMS EVEN THOUGH THEY AREN'T ON THEM. MYSTERY FREAKING SOLVED GO BACK TO DOING SOMETHING ELSE NOW.
Totally an invalid comparison and in no way do I consider this of any relevance compared to things like that.
But this is GoNintendo so I'm sorry to be discussing videogames and say that a PR guy running his mouth about 3rd parties is "pathetic".
I really don't care. Time for me to take a break from GoNintendo. =) Laters!
Piss poor job, hell they didn't do anything. They wouldn't want to steal any thunder from "THE BEST SELLING GAME OF ALL TIME!!!!"
We'll see activision, we'll see.
But IMO NSMBW will outsell MW2 in the long run.
@Burgers. I don't want to get into anything with you, because let's face it, you're always right. But how many of those titles have you picked up. Not saying anything, but I can see you complaining about those games and how they don't meet your high standards, yet you use them in your defense.
You're seriously one of the biggest hypocrites on here.
I was thinking more along the lines of multiplatform ports such as Dirt 2, or Ubisoft titles aside from Red Steel 2 (which don't know how it will turn out). Hell, how about Spider-Man 3. Anyone remember that turd?
"What the hell kind of expectations do you have?"
I'll just list games and let you infer what my expectations are:
Perfect Dark. Spider-Man 1 & 2. Viewtiful Joe. Ikaruga. Donkey Kong 64. Conker's Bad Fur Day.
If I saw more 3rd party games along that level of quality I'd be happier.
"I had no idea games were suddenly awful because they weren't produced by the first and second-string teams."
Welcome to reality.
"You must have bought 0 games from third parties so far. Truly sad."
Well I guess you missed my post in another topic where I said that I have picked up two third-party titles so far: The Conduit and Sim City Creator. I also said that I liked those game. I just can't afford more at the moment.
"No wonder third parties are not trying on Wii, between Nintendo bragging that their first-party titles sell way more, and fickle consumers like you who lash out at every title that is not a huge major production regardless of how good it is... why would they bother?"
Funny how you say that Nintendo is bragging about outselling third parties, yet you make no mention of Reggie standing up for them quite vehemently and telling core gamers to quit complaining and go buy their titles. Selective memory?
I'm fickle? And what gives you that idea? What do you know about my tastes or my income? My purchasing habits have not changed in nearly 10 years. I maybe pick up 6-10 console games a year. That's it. I look for the best. I don't have a disposable income.
And what is "not a huge major production regardless of how good it is" supposed to mean? That makes absolutely no sense. I go for what's fun. Nothing else.
Nah, just joking, again! It's not like a disagree, it's just that... he really didn't need to mention it. Both will sell well.
"It's ON, b****!"
It's not worth counting as a platform, since the PC version is gimped this time around
I'm saving my bucks for Zelda: ST, Crystal Bearers, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Lost Planet 2, and etc.
