REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- It was among the most heinous incidents in video game history: In 1986, Princess Zelda™ was kidnapped from the land of Hyrule, setting off an intrepid rescue adventure for young hero Link™. Unfortunately for Zelda, this offense has been repeated more than a dozen times since, leaving her largely out of sight while Link traversed dark dungeons and confronted monstrous enemies alone in order to save her.

This time, in the new Nintendo DS™ and Nintendo DSi™ adventure The Legend of Zelda™: Spirit Tracks, that all changes.

For the first time in the 23-year history of The Legend of Zelda series, Princess Zelda is leaving the villainous clutches of the underworld behind and joining the adventure with Link. In The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, the spirit of Zelda accompanies Link on his quest to save Hyrule. Directly impacting game play like never before, Zelda’s spirit can take control of hulking suits of armor known as Phantoms, allowing the player to direct both Link and these new allies as they battle enemies, solve puzzles and uncover secrets. Zelda also rides alongside Link on his customizable train, offering wisdom that will help players find new areas, storylines and items. The team of Link and Zelda presents countless new storyline details for fans to enjoy, including a closer look at Princess Zelda herself, one of the most iconic video game characters of all-time.

“More than two decades into its rich history, The Legend of Zelda has introduced another historic first for players as Link and Zelda unite to save Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Combining these unprecedented new story and game-play elements with the series’ innovative touch-screen interface on Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi, the game is sure to surprise and delight new and longtime fans.”

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks launches in North America on Dec. 7. For more information, visit www.Zelda.com/SpiritTracks.

As I said last night, I really like this plot device. The Zelda series has always needed...moar Zelda. And Zelda possessing a big freakin' suit of armor is even more awesome.

She probably just serves drinks and sells stuff on the train. You know, how most women are portrayed in Nintendo games... Uesless.

Are we going to see the same for Super Mario Galaxy 2 with Peach and Mario in some way? The story's of the 'Super Mario' and 'The Legend of Zelda'-series are basically the same (save the princess etcetera).

Good idea, but technically she helped link in o.o.t *spoiler* as shiek even it wasn't a jorney were she followed him around and helped him in dungeons, that still counts.

I'm also excited for the story. I'm a big Zelda story-chronology nut. Before Twilight Princess or Phantom Hourglass, I use to frequent a site with storyline enthusiasts. We always speculated that eventually there would be a Zelda game (related to Wind Waker) in which a new Hyrule is found, considering Old Hyrule was flooded according to Wind Waker's introduction. This speculation we had dated back to 2002! So it's nice that we were right about something. Spirit Tracks takes place in the New Hyrule that Wind Waker/PH Link and Tetra (Zelda) were seeking.

I wasn't too interested until I found out about Spirit Track's gameplay mechanic. I mean...I knew about the Phantom Knight helping Link, but I didn't know it was Zelda's spirit possessing that armor.

You see that's all Zelda is about...gameplay and puzzles, but at least their fun! Nintendo really knows how to keep thE Zelda series fresh.

@DrFurball

yea, hami is a jackass, im not sure what he has been playing

@Hami83

like i said, youre a jackass, what have you been playing?

cooking mama? thats it? all the other female (main) characters are un conventional, peach not only occasionally fights for herself, but she really just gets captured as her job, its a thing she does...or maybe you never played paper mario. plus, a nine iron across your head, mafia style

I love how she is able to help Link in spirit form, yet she's still kidnapped. Strikes me as funny for some odd reason.

@Traviswiifan

When was the Deku Tree mentioned?

EDIT: Oh, that thing on the picture!

Regardless, the Deku Tree in The Wind Waker was the baby Deku Tree from Ocarina of Time, so yes. There is more than one Deku Tree. It would not be surprising if a seed was planted elsewhere.

That or it's just a big tree.

Not every large tree is the Great Deku Tree, you know.
